Summary

None of the print studio websites mention funding for their education programmes so it can be assumed that the course fees must cover the cost of the tutor and all associated materials.

The majority of the print studios covered in this report, offer adult courses either during the day or in the evening. The purpose of these courses is often to introduce the participant to the different printing techniques and teach them how to use the equipment with a view to using the studio independently following the end of the course. Some of the courses are targeted at artists with some previous experience of the printmaking technique and fall within professional development.

Children’s programmes & outreach work

The following print studios offer programmes for schools and teachers: Highland Print Studio, Northern Print Studio is launching a new educational programme and they have access to a portable press for outreach work.

DCA offers a family programme throughout the year and during school holidays. While this isn’t structured around the curriculum the intention is to introduce children to printing techniques and the use of colour and texture in art.

London Print Studio have also offered a range of very reasonably priced courses in the recent past ranging from badge making to making animal masks.

Costs

These vary by printmaking technique; Japanese woodblock courses are expensive due to the equipment and materials that are used.
