The learners of this 5th grade class will learn about unearthing the past and exploring the mysteries and wonders of the Ancient world. Students take a journey back into ancient times to find explorers efforts to find a lost city of gold, or ancient tombs as prominent as Herod’s tomb,or tunnels that lead to the hideout of the Holy Grail.

PROJECT BASED LEARNING• Student #1– Power point presentation with descriptions.(click here).• The minimum slides are 5 sides providing data of your 3 researched sites, including the

URL.s.• Student #2- write a fictional account (click here)related to his or her research , or

pretending to be in the photograph. This will submitted in Microsoft Word including a photo and a URL.

• Also write a letter to a friend (click here)informing of what astonishing events you have discovered and will include a poem(click here).

• Student #3 –in Microsoft Word, student will display a diary(click here), personal reaction(click here), in which they will display their thoughts about the photos of the ancient world. Also required will be a compare and contrast (click here)the ancient event a event that is some form similar to the event in the Modern 20th century.. For example, in the legend of the Fountain of Youth, a spring of running water is found restoring youth to the aged. How can this compare to a person who has been undergone a heart transplant and now can live a normal life? Two URL’s are required.

• Student #4 the student will be an ancient History Cyber Journalist- He or she will describe and assess the circumstances surrounding a major historical event (click here)from the ancient world by using the internet. They will gather information as a reporter and display it with a photo as a newspaper article. In the article, they will explain to the class, the who, what, where, when, why and how. Two URL’s are required.

• To assess their work as a team, a collaboration of a page (click here) on a power point for each student regarding any of the topics of Mysteries of an Ancient World. Photo of Art included. (Art drawing). They are to write a brief description of the page.

• By including Art, this Web object brings one to where opinions are at the heart of it. Art is varied in structure, there is no success or fail.

The links to begin their exploration of these mysteries of the ancient world is by going to http://www.nationalgeographic.com/history/ancient/index.html , then click article in lost Inca Gold, get the story.The will pick one of the following stories: Catacombs of Rome, The Fountain of Youth, the lost Inca gold, Atlantis, Catacombs of Rome, El Dorado, Anubis Mural,and Herod’s Tomb. They are encouraged to search other engines as AOL, Google, Bing to gather their data. Books and text are discouraged to use since integrating social studies with technology is the focus.
