幾個基本認知：

○1 申請經濟碩班，不用去修一大堆經濟學或商學院課程；需要的是多一點的數學課程，如：

多變量微積分、線性代數、數理統計學、微分方程、高等微積分、實變函數分析。

經濟學的部分只需要修完個經、總經、計量經濟學即可。

○2 好的成績，並非是靠通識學分衝高的；而是在你所修的數學、經濟學課程中拿到 80、90 分。夠

高的 GRE 成績也是必須的， 330 分以上會是有競爭力的（V：160，Q：170）。

所以很明顯的，在大學階段，必須花很大心力在自己的課業上。畢竟除非是數學系，大概很少科系

的必修可以涵蓋上述推薦的數學課程。

不過我想，對於大部分的人而言，要申請經濟碩博班竟然需要大量的數學，大概會是很 Shocking

的一件事情。甚至你可能會萌生放棄的念頭：「我數學並不好……」

If you’re weak in math…

Fortunately, if you’re weak in math, we have good news: Math is something you can learn. That may

sound like a crazy claim to most Americans, who are raised to believe that math ability is in the genes. It

may even sound like arrogance coming from two people who have never had to struggle with math. But

we’ve both taught people math for many years, and we really believe that it’s true. Genes help a bit, but

math is like a foreign language or a sport: effort will result in skill.

在大學領域的數學，其實多少已經不會有過度繁瑣的題目設計，大部分原文書後面的習題，都是有它

的脈絡可以追尋；更且，有時候進階的習題只是為了滿足原先就很厲害的人的成就感，或者是為了特

定領域，原文書中有六到八成的習題其實都是基礎的習題，由此可見：作者希望的是學生多作一些習

題來建立好的基礎，而非一味追求很有挑戰性的問題。

但可能還是會有人猶豫，「不是說要好成績嘛？那如果我努力過後，還是拿不到好的成績呢？」

If you took some math classes but didn’t do very well, don’t worry. Retake the classes. If you are worried

about how that will look on your transcript, take the class the first time “off the books” at a different

college (many community colleges have calculus classes) or online. Or if you have already gotten a bad

grade, take it a second time off the books and then a third time for your transcript. If you work hard,

every time you take the class you’ll do better. You will learn the math and be able to prove it by the grade

you get. Not only will this help you get into an econ PhD program, once you get in, you’ll breeze through

parts of grad school that would otherwise be agony.

多變量微積分、線性代數、高等微積分、數理統計學（涵蓋了機率論）、微分方程、實分析。

老實說，第二個表格所列出的經濟學課程其實看作選修就好，畢竟台灣的學制真的學分數太多，其實

光要修完上述的課程就有一點困難；當然可以一邊修進階的經濟學一邊探索自己的方向。

但如果有多餘的時間，爭取作研究專題的機會，或者是再多修一些數學的課程，如：隨機過程、偏微

分方程等等。

GPA 究竟要用 4.3 制還是 4.0 制，似乎有不少的說法和爭議，但基本上就是附上學校成績單給的就可以了。

首先來介紹 GRE（Graduate Record Examinations）

GRE General Test 以電腦作答為主，GRE Subject Test 則以紙筆作答為主。

一般而言，出國留學都是考 GRE General Test，。

GRE General Test 分成三大部分：

分析寫作 Analytical Writing、詞彙測驗 Verbal Reasoning、計量測驗 Quantitative Reasoning。

分析寫作 Analytical Writing：包含 Issue Task，兩題擇一題回答，滿分 6 分，作答時間 30 分鐘；以

及 Argument Task，滿分 6 分，作答時間 30 分鐘；總分為 Issue Task 和 Argument Task 得分之平均數。

詞彙測驗 Verbal Reasoning：計分區間為 130-170 分，增量為 1 分，共 20 題。

計量測驗 Quantitative Reasoning：計分區間為 130-170 分，增量為 1 分，共 20 題。

CV (Curriculum Vitae)

所謂的 CV，其實就是一種履歷。

應包含：

申請人基本資料(Name, Contact Information)、欲研究之領域(Areas of Interest)、教育背景(Education)、

研究經歷(Research Experience)、工作或教學經歷(Working and Teaching Experience)、

曾獲獎項(Honor and Distinctions)、論文（Publications）。

亦可視個人經歷作不同的調整、強調。

需注意：一般而言不會用 Word 作 CV 的編撰，而是使用 LaTeX 系統。

用 LaTeX 編排出來的文件比較正式，在 LaTeX 的 Official Website 的描述中：

LaTeX is a high-quality typesetting system。

且因為 Word 對數學方程式的輸入支援不足，而 LaTeX 正是以優美的數學符號輸出而聞名。因此許多

論文也都是用 LaTeX 所編寫出來的。

SOP(Statement of Purpose)

類似學測申請大學時申請動機、讀書計畫與自傳的結合，目的在呈現：

申請這學位的動機？

為什麼這間學校？為什麼是這個 Program？

為了這個學位，做了哪些準備？

畢業之後的生涯規劃？

以下是加州大學柏克萊分校給申請者的 SOP 要求的描述：

Please describe your aptitude and motivation for graduate study in your area of

specialization, including your preparation for this field of study, your academic plans or

research interests in your chosen area of study, and your future career goals. Please be

specific about why UC Berkeley would be a good intellectual fit for you.

PHS（Personal History Statement）

某些學校會希望有 PHS，也就是所謂的自傳；並不是每個學校都會需要附上，因為 SOP 通常就會要

你把自傳和學位有強烈連結的部份給放入。

以下是兩間學校對 PHS 要求的描述：
