Good Morning my beloved teacher and friends.

First of all, let’s thank God, the Almighty who has been giving us His mercy and blessings ‘till we can attend this meeting. And also thanks for the chance that has been given to me. Today I would like to present my speech about Drug Abuse.

Drugs are available in all major urban areas, including schools, Karaoke lounges, bars, cafes, discotheques, nightclubs, and they even spread into remote villages. Therefore it is not surprising that drug users continue to increase from year to year.

Lots of people are tempted by the excitement or escape that drugs seem to offer. Some used to call drugs harmless recreation. But they're not. Drugs are real and terribly dangerous threat to our neighborhoods, our friends and our families.

A drug is a substance which changes the way the body and mind work. These are the characteristics of drug users:• Redness of eyes, constant runny nose and teary eyes.• Sudden mood changes. • Unusual, unsociable or irregular behaviour.• Change of friends. • Reduction in extracurricular activities.• Minimal interaction with the family.• Lethargy. • Stealing.• Loss of appetite. • Nausea.• Anxiety.

Drug abuse in Indonesia is hidden in a way. It is mainly due to our sense of shame (called aib) that is instilled among the people. For example, instead of getting help, people will hide their children who are using drugs so they will not have to carry the aib. It is acknowledged as a problem, but then we are not doing enough to stop it.

Everybody knows that drugs are a problem, everybody knows how bad it is, and yet not many would really come out and make a big step in proclaiming this with a strong message. If we fight this war on drug as a divided nation, then the war is lost. But, if we face this evil as a nation united, this will be nothing but a handful of useless chemicals.

Of course, victory over drugs will take hard work and time, and with your help, WE ARE GOING TO WIN.

Thank you.
