Problem
• I-40 Underpass on Jefferson St.• The overpass that crosses over Jefferson
Street creates division amongst the area. • The bridge creates a dark, unattractive area
for the community.
Objective
• Provide a safe and secure environment for pedestrians and tourists to celebrate the history and culture of Jefferson street.
• Catalyze the economy and life on Jefferson street for the community.

Lighting and Power Supply
•LED lights were chosen for the Billy Jean and the lighted walkway. These lights will be secured in the ground causing no hindrance to maintenance vehicles.
•These lights can be purchased from Radiant Lighting Company to light the columns.
•Color specifications
Columns• Each column under the bridge will be surrounded by 4 LED lights, which
will be located at the cardinal points (N,S,E,W). • Each light will project up to 30 feet high • The fixtures for these lights can come in white, amber, blue, green and
also red. We will use different colors for each column to add color to the environment.
• These lights are more efficient and last longer than regular lights, lasting for 80,000-100,000 hours.

Walkway lightingLight Specs
• Expected Life:– 80,000 hrs
• Housing:– Corrosion and Immersion resistant– Field proven to last 20 years with no maitenance
• Lens Temperature stays cool• Electrical : 120VAC 50/60hz input• Adjustable lighting tilt• 1644 lumen output per 22 watt input
– About 75 lumen/watts• Flood and spot light choices
Walkway lighting Manufacturer Choice
• We looked at products from several manufacturers. However, LSI Industries really stood out with their Crossover XIG In-ground light product.– What we looked for in a manufacturer:• Proven track record• Quality customer support
Walkway lighting Placement
• Staggered pattern along the walkway– Shape would look similar to a series of W’s– 10 degree tilt inwards to the walkway.– 9ft apart– Flood setup for wider beam
• 3 lights placed in the semi-circular monument section– Spotlight setup
• 3 lights in each wall of the amphitheater, tilted towards the stage– 10/10/5 degree tilts– Flood setup
Walkway lightingCost and Power Consumption
• Number of lights needed to light 760ft pathway, monuments and amphitheater:– 93– $750 per light– $69,750 (LED is expensive!)
• Power Consumption:– 2.05 kW– Annual Energy cost: $1,408.96
Walkway lighting Cost Comparison
• Similar metal halide light costing $550.00• 60 watt• Initial cost: $51,150– Difference: -$18,600
• Annual Energy Cost: $3,842.61– Difference: +$2433.65
• 7.6 years to make up the cost of initial investment due to energy savings
Energy Harvesting
• Solar Panels will be placed in the grass across the site to preserve energy for the Jefferson underpass
• These panels will help lower the amount of power used and make the area more eco-friendly.
