MetLab Workshop Series 2014: critical discourse analysis
This course is aimed at those with little or no knowledge of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) or how it might be used in research projects.
You do not need any prior training in discourse analysis to benefit from the course and all the necessary resources to complete the course will be provided through the online platform.
The course will cover:*Introduction to CDA*Data collection*Approaches to analysis*Doing CDA – working with your data*Developing your CDA approach*Completing your CDA project
Certificates will be awarded to all candidates who successfully complete the course.
A follow up course can be taken once you have completed this introductory course.

•In this course we will consider the following questions: • what is discourse analysis?• what is critical discourse analysis?• why is it useful?• what does it analyse? • can I do it?• what date is available ?• what is the unit of analysis?• what approach to adopt?
•We will also explore:• examples of a CDA • written text as well as image as ‘text’
•In addition:• you will have an opportunity to engage in the critical analysis of
selected ‘texts’
