Discount:

“ The difference between the marked price and the lowered selling price is called Discount.”

Discount = Marked price - Selling Price

The rate of discount given is called discount

percent.

Discount = Marked Price x Discount Percent

Problem #1 A bicycle cost Rs. 2500. If the shopkeeper gives a 5% discount, how much is the discount?

For how much can the customer buy the bicycle?

Marked price= Rs. 2500

Discount Percent =5%

To find:-

Selling Price=?

Discount=?

Solution:-

Discount =Marked Price x Discount%

Discount= 2500 x 5

Therefore,

Discount = Rs. 125

Discount = M.P. – S.P.

S.P = M.P. – Discount

S.P. = 2500 – 125

S.P. = 2375

Therefore,

Selling Price = Rs. 2375

The marked price of a watch is Rs. 650. If the shopkeeper gives a discount of 8%, what is its selling price?

Solution:-Discount = Marked Price

x Discount%Discount = 650 x 8
