Jacksonville City is located in the state of Florida in the
country of the United States of America. It is my hometown where I
grew up during my teenage years and also the place that I moved
from before arriving to Nantes about 13 years ago, It just so
happens that Jacksonville, USA is the sister city with Nantes,
France. There are student exchange programs with students from
universities from both cities. So dont be surprised to find
Americans walking around Nantes from sunny Jacksonville, Fl. I
chose to do this slide presentation on Jacksonville as a way for
people to get to know this fun town on the other side of the
Atlantic Ocean that if they have the opportunity to visit America
and are from Nantes they might just enjoy visiting.This slide
presentation will just give some general information about the town
its history, attracions and people. Enjoy!!!!!!!
General location of
Jacksonville
Jacksonville is located on the east coast of Fl, facing the
Atlantic Ocean.The city is tucked in the upper North East handle of
the state of Florida. The estimated population in 2012 is 836,507
and it is the largest city in the state of Florida. The city of
Jacksonville is called the First Coast Region and is centered on
the banks of the St. Johns River. The Jacksonville Beaches
communities are along the Atlantic Coast.
Jacksonville has a humid subtropical climate, with mild weather
during winters and hot weather during summers. It is common for
thunderstorms to errupt during a typical summer afternoon. Dutring
winter there can be hard freezes during the night.
There are more than 500 neighborhoods with jacksonville's vast
area.Jakcsonville is divided into several amorphous areas
comprising large parts of Duval County. These are Northside,
Westside, Southside and Arlington aswell as the Jacksonville
Beaches.

Jacksonville is best known as one of the largest cities of the
state of Florida and home to the Jacksonville Jaguars Football
team. There are many sports organizations and outdoors enterprises
that have settled in Jacksonville due to the favorable weather
during the greater majority of the year. This is possibily one of
the best features that Jacksonville has to offer: good weather and
very little storm damage.
Brief History
The city of Jacksonville began in the late 18th century settled
by British colonists.
In the 16th century the beginning of the historical record
period, the area was inhibited by the Mocama, a coastal subgroup of
the Timucua indigenous Native Americans.
In 1513, Spanish explorers landed in Florida and claimed their
discovery for Spain. The first Europeans to visit the areawere
Spanish Missionaries ans explorers from this period.
During the American civil war, Jacksonville was a key supply
point for hogs and cattle leaving Florida and aiding the
confederate cause.
Jacksonville is one of the few cities on the Eastern Coast that
have been largely spared from the wrath of hurricanes.

Jacksonville has a rich history to it, especially since it was a
landing point for European explorers and the cradle of colonial
life in America at a very early time in the history of the
Americas. Jacksonville has been one of the landing points and hubs
for commerce and trading from the very beginning.

Jacksonville is known for its beaches and beach life. There are
many fun things to do in town and in the beaches area, like
surfing, boating, fishing etc. There are also a number of festivals
that are held annually within the beach walk that attract large
crowds, such as the Blues and Jazz Festivals. Apart from being a
beach recreational area for tourists Jacksonville has an elaborate
art and cultural life. At different periods of the year expositions
of local art and craft productions are put on display within
different areas of Jacksonville.
