What did you like about your images?I like the cartoonish style of them both as I think it makes them both look cute even though there were a few different tools and techniques used, it looks as if they were made using a minimal amount of skill. What would you improve if you did them again?I would add more detail to them to make them look more realistic. To do this I would add maybe some brick detail to the house, and some fur detail to the panda.

What did you like about your image?I like the comic book effect this tool gives an image, and how realistic they look whilst still have the cartoonish effect. What would you improve if you did it again?Next time I would probably attempt to add more make up to her to give a slightly more realistic effect.

What did you like about your image?I like how the effect on the images goes with the quote well, and how the perspective matches the way the gun goes. What would you improve if you did it again?I would maybe try putting different effects with the image to see which other effects would go well with the quote and which ones wouldn’t.

What did you like about your image?I like the simplicity of being able to tell a story only using images and without the use of words. I also like how the different effects can change the aspect of the story. What would you improve if you did it again?I would try doing different effects and maybe change a few photo’s to see how it would change the story.

What did you like about your image?I like the simple style and the small details that the image has and the effect it gives. I also like how the words are not all on one line but are on quite a few as I think it makes it easier to read for children which is the target audience for most fairy tales. What would you improve if you did it again? If I were to re-do this I would probably add a background to make the image more detailed and fix the birds feet as I do not like them.

Story OverviewThe story begins when a little girl, who everyone calls Little Red Riding Hood gets told by her mother to deliver a basket of goods to her sick grandmother who lives in the middle of the woods. On her way to Granny’s house Little Riding Hood comes across a patch of flowers and stops to take a sniff. Suddenly, a wolf shows up and asks her where she is going. Once he finds out he convinces her to gather some flowers for her Grandmother to surprise her. He uses this time to quickly run to Grandmothers house and locks her in the wardrobe. When Little Red Riding Hood arrives she notices her Grandmother does not look like herself, she soon realizes that it’s the wolf in her Grandmothers nightgown. Just before the wolf has a chance to eat Little Red Riding Hood, a woodsman hears her scream, and breaks into the house, killing the wolf and saving Little Red Riding Hood and her Grandmother from a grizzly end.

Export Format

JPEG

Advantages: They are easy to transport and have a smaller file size than a PSD.

Disadvantages: If by chance the image becomes resized, it is at risk of becoming pixelated, and it will be compressed.

Audience

The book will mostly be aimed at children between the ages of 4-8 and will appeal to both genders as the girls will like Little Red Riding Hood and the boys will favour the Wolf and the Woodsman. The book will also be aimed towards English speaking countries, mainly focussing on UK to people in the social class of ABC1 as they will see the book as a luxury expense which won’t break the bank. The book will also appeal to the parent’s who children like reading bedtime stories as the story is a classic which they will remember from their childhood as they read it to their children.

Production Methods

To create the pages in the book I will photoshop. For the background of each page I will use a filter over some pictures to create a cartoonish effect. To add more detail if needed, I would put another layer with a threshold to the background. For the characters I will use a mixture of Rota-scoping and shape manipulation over images I have illustrated or taken. This will give them a cartoonish effect which will tie in well with the background images. I will do the characters separately and save them as a JPEG to add to the PSD to ensure there are not an excessive amount of layers to avoid confusion and to lessen the file size when It will be saved as a JPEG.

What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?

Well explained story, easy to follow and people are already familiar with this story so I can presume there will be a greater audience than a lesser known story.

Clear idea of what they will do during the task and how they will do it.

More fleshed out audience would be a good improvement to make, such as the social class they're in.

What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been further developed?

Good and detailed idea generation, obviously aware of what they are going to do. Clear understanding of different Photoshop techniques etc.

Perhaps start to annotate the mood board so that we can further understand the elements that are on there and why they are on there (what purpose they serve.)

What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?

The story is well explained and I could follow it clearly. The page dimensions and file format for your story are suitable and explained well. The target audience is also clear to understand.

To improve you could talk about how you have tried to aim your book towards your target audience.

What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been further developed?

Used a wide range of angles to look at and it is clear that you have a general idea of what you are doing.

Maybe separate the different areas of the mood board so it is clearer with say annotation or wider gaps.

What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?

Story seems interesting and something that people will be keen to read, probably interested to see what differences there are compared to other iterations.

More reasoning to why they are opting to use the JPEG format could be included.

What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been further developed?

Fonts picked that make sense and look interesting especially to a younger audience.

The way they are planning on making the little red riding hood story seem unique and the art style seems like something that would appeal to the audience.

Interesting images picked for the mood board however I would say that some annotations on there may be a good idea to show why they have chosen those images.

Feedback SummarySum up your feedback.I got mostly positive feedback which I am pleased with that say I have a clear understanding of what I am doing and I have a simple, easy to understand story.

Which parts of your feedback do you agree with and why?I agree with the fact that I know what I am doing for the book because I have an idea clear in my head for what I want to achieve and have tried to show this in my planning. I think I have managed to do this due to the feedback I have received.

Which parts of your feedback do you disagree with and why?

I do not really agree with the having to improve on talking about my target audience as I feel I have made it clear who my target audience is.

Original Script

One day, Little Red Riding Hood’s mother said to her, “Take this basket of goodies to your grandma’s cottage, but don’t talk to strangers on the way!” Promising not to, Little Red Riding Hood skipped off. On her way she met the Big Bad Wolf who asked, “Where are you going, little girl?” “To my grandma’s, Mr. Wolf!” she answered. The Big Bad Wolf then ran to her grandmother’s cottage much before Little Red Riding Hood, and knocked on the door. When Grandma opened the door, he locked her up in the cupboard. The wicked wolf then wore Grandma’s clothes and lay on her bed, waiting for Little Red Riding Hood. When Little Red Riding Hood reached the cottage, she entered and went to Grandma’s bedside. “My! What big eyes you have, Grandma!” she said in surprise. “All the better to see you with, my dear!” replied the wolf. “My! What big ears you have, Grandma!” said Little Red Riding Hood. “All the better to hear you with, my dear!” said the wolf. “What big teeth you have, Grandma!” said Little Red Riding Hood. “All the better to eat you with!” growled the wolf pouncing on her. Little Red Riding Hood screamed and the woodcutters in the forest came running to the cottage. They beat the Big Bad Wolf and rescued Grandma from the cupboard. Grandma hugged Little Red Riding Hood with joy. The Big Bad Wolf ran away never to be seen again. Little Red Riding Hood had learnt her lesson and never spoke to strangers ever again.
