• Every sentence MUST start with a capital letter

• All proper nouns (names, titles) MUST have a capital letter

• Always use a capital for ‘I’• Words with an incorrect capital will be

circled: i love clevedon and C put in the margin

• If a word is spelled incorrectly the mistake needs to be circled and S put in the margin

• If you know how to spell the word you need to correct the spelling

• If you don’t know how to spell the word you need to learn a strategy to spell it correctly

• Put a P in the margin if writing contains punctuation mistakes and circle the error

• Sentences must end with one of the following . ? !

• Commas are ONLY used in lists or to divide a main clause from a subordinate clause – As I was writing, I noticed lots of mistakes.

• You do NOT use a comma where you take a breath – this is a LIE!

• If in doubt leave them out!
