•  No  single  place  to  find  out  what  is  going  on  in  any  given  department  or  service  in  the  University  for  current  staff  and  students.    

•  Content  is  added  to  a  variety  of  tools  -­‐  VLE,  prospecCve  websites  etc.    

•  Confluence  and  RefinedWiki  were  chosen  to  fix  this.    

Challenge  

•  Confluence  was  chosen  as  it  easily  enables  a  collaboraCve  workspace  for  individuals  to  document  what  they,  their  colleagues  and  their  departments  are  doing  and  how  they  do  it.  

•  RefinedWiki  was  chosen  to  improve  the  user  interface  and  funcConality  of  confluence.  They  also  have  a  intranet  visual  idenCty  which  they  needed  to  transfer  onto  Confluence,  RefinedWiki  enabled  them  to  do  this  very  easily.  

Why  Confluence  +  RefinedWiki  

•  Branding  is  very  easy  by  using  the  RefinedWiki  admin,  the  previous  intranet  brand  was  transfered  within  a  day.  

•  Structure  of  RefinedWiki  Original  Theme  is  easy  too,  just  drag  and  drop  spaces  and  categories.  

Why  Confluence  +  RefinedWiki  

•  Create  a  Web  environment  that  will:  

•  Streamline  the  user  experience  by  providing  a  single  entry  point  to  most  commonly  used  services  for  a  parCcular  user  or  group  

•  Increase  faculty,  staff,  and  student  saCsfacCon  by  making  common  transacCons  more  intuiCve,  easier,  and  online  

Goals  with  Confluence/RefinedWiki  

•  Improve  communicaCon  between  the  university  and  within  the  campus  community  

•  Provide  a  collaboraCve  environment

•  In  September  2012  the  university  relaunched  a  new  Virtual  Learning  Environment.  Confluence  as  been  used  as  the  central  documentaCon  area,  encouraging  staff  to  parCcipate  in  the  usage  and  development  of  the  system.  

•  The  web  team  are  using  confluence  to  document  new  pracCces  and  upcoming  projects.  NoCficaCons  and  Team  Calendars  are  being  heavily  used,  for  meeCngs  and  project  workload.    

SoluCons  -­‐  example  

•  University  Library  services  staff  have  moved  their  procedure  manuals  from  paper  based  to  confluence,  benefits  being  staff  are  alerted  to  amended  procedures,  staff  are  encouraged  to  add  content  and  comment.    

•  University  Library  services  are  using  the  enhanced  RefinedWiki  blogging  capabiliCes  to  alert  students  when  their  assignments  are  ready  to  collect.
