IELTS
• The International English Language Testing System or IELTS is an international standardised test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers.
• It is jointly managed by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge English Language Assessmentand was established in 1989.
• IELTS is one of the major English-language tests in the world .
• There are two versions of the IELTS: the Academic Version and the General Training Version.
• There is also a separate test offered by the IELTS test partners, called IELTS Life Skills:
• IELTS Academic is intended for those who want to enroll in universities and other institutions of higher education and for professionals such as medical doctors and nurses who want to study or practise in an English-speaking country.
• IELTS General Training is intended for those planning to undertake non-academic training or to gain work experience, or for immigration purposes.
• IELTS Life Skills is intended for those who need to prove their English speaking and listening skills at Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) levels A1 or B1 and can be used to apply for a ‘family of a settled person’ visa, indefinite leave to remain or citizenship in the UK.
• IELTS is accepted by most Australian, British, Canadian and New Zealand academic institutions, by over 3,000 academic institutions in the United States, and by various professional organisations across the world
TOEFL• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is a
standardized test of English language proficiency for non-
native English language speakers wishing to enroll in US
universities .
• The test is accepted by many English-speakingacademic and
professional institutions.
• TOEFL is a trademark of the Educational Testing Service
(ETS), a private non-profit organization, which designs and
administers the tests. The scores are valid for 2 years; then
they are no longer reported
TKT• The Teaching Knowledge Test, or TKT, is a professional
credential that focuses on core teaching concepts for teachers of English as a foreign language.
• It should not be compared to the CELTA because it does not have a practical teaching component and focuses more on the specialized language and abstracted concepts of ELT than on the actual application of ELT concepts in lesson preparation and delivery
• TKT assessment takes the form of a multiple choice test, made up of three modules, which can be taken together, or separately in any order.
TET(Teacher Eligibility Test )
• Teacher Eligibility Test is an Indian entrance examination for teachers .
• The test is mandatory for getting teaching jobs in government schools from Class 1 to Class 8 .
• It is conducted by both Central government and State governments in India .
• The test is conducted by in order fulfill and achieve the goals of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act .
• TET was introduced by the Government of India in order to improve standards in teaching .
• It was held for the first time in 2011 .
• For teachers already working , they are supposed to clear the exam in two years time .
NET (National Eligibility Test )
• NET is a abbreviated form of the National ElibilityTest conducted by the University Grant Commission (UGC).
• This exam is written in order to enable a candidate to apply for lectureship or for joining the research fellowship in colleges .
• Generally the passing percent of the student for this exam (About 5 ./.) is very minimal because of the high standards
• The UGC conducts the net exam every year in the month of June and December .
• The NET exam is conducted for many papers which include Humanities (which also consist of languages ) , Computer Science ,and Applications Social Science , Environmental Sciences , Electronic Science , and Forensic Science .
• The UGC NET exams are carried out in a variety of topics like Physical Science , Life Science , Mathematical Science , Chemical Science and Earth Atmospheric Ocean and Planetary Science jointly by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and UGC .
SET(State Eligibility Test )
• The exam pattern of the State Level Eligibility Test is based on National Eligibility Test conducted by the UGC .
• By passing SET exam , lectureship is grant on that particular state only .
• The papers include subjects like Social Science , Science Subjects and Humanities correspondingly .
• The aspirants who are appearing for the SLET test gets to answer the paper in their mother tongue or in English .
• Some of the state that conducts SLET ARE Tamil Nadu , Andhra Pradesh , UP , Himachal Pradesh , Maharashtra , Goa and the north eastern state of India including Sikkim .
