Collaborative Knowledge Platform CKP
An initiative to facilitate in a structured way the knowledge creation, dissemination and exploitation in Network Innovation Projects.
WijmanCoaching, May 2010
In cooperation with Acanthis Document Solutions.
We identified some issues that call for a collaborative knowledge platform,
Consensus on Business & Project objectives between partners in the network?
Governance in place to ensure achieving agreed objectives ?
Cultural barriers, routines and value system differences between partners addressed?
Competencies and resources needed identified, secured and used?
Active participation and contribution by all?
Quality communication and teamwork in place and reinforced?
Know-how captured and accessible in a structured way?
IP issues identified and appropriately managed?

Network projects often involve bigger OEM’s and smaller entrepreneurial companies
But then, what is Knowledge and Knowledge Management …
Knowledge is…….
The capacity to act in a context
Knowledge Management ….
Is the process of creating, disseminating and exploiting (re-using) knowledge to enhance business performance.
It is a combination of process, people, content and technology.
Capturing, sharing and exploiting valuable explicit AND tacit knowledge, ideas and practices in the service of our customers and employees to achieve our goals and competitive edge.

To support managing knowledge, we developed a Collaborative Knowledge Platform …
Knowledge Map (often based on an Object Model) The network is treated as ONE organizational entity; a structured and modular description of
the innovation process/planning milestones is used as the leading (meta) principle to coordinate cross organizational/-functional activities in the network.
Network participants agree on content definitions of knowledge objects, topics and subtopics etc. and the linkage structure as a basis for building the Platform and workflow.
Following business/project objectives and aligned interests of network partners (governance) responsibilities for knowledge objects, topics etc. are allocated.
Based on the Knowledge Map a Portal Architecture is designed that: Supports the capture and sharing of all kind of information and interfaces with most IT
application add-ons.
Fits with the daily work-environment and routine of the knowledge workers.
Allows for incorporating Web 2.0/social media to support capture of tacit knowledge, and to drive team cohesion and social network in the project.

In summary, the key features of the Collaborative Knowledge Platform …
Starts from defined knowledge objects and their linkages to share knowledge in the network project.
Roles and responsibilities are based on governance & competencies, and defined to add value to
knowledge objects to achieve objectives.
A horizontal approach based on “social innovation” principles.
A tool to manage and secure knowledge increase.
Secure access and structured storage/sharing and collaboration (workflow) of knowledge & documents
between partners; IP rights identified and embedded in the platform.
“In-line” communicating progress and results in the network.
Synchronize and link knowledge and activities of all players, incl. SmartTabs and TagClouds.
Supports teamwork, decision making and addresses cultural aspects of network projects.
A robust knowledge management application customized to a typical setting.
Lab notes completed by knowledge workers using digital pen/paper can automatically be stored.

When interested, our proposition is …
A focused approach for network innovation projects to enhance effectiveness, efficiencyand the quality of the collaboration of network partners.
Sing from one hymn sheet
Aligning the interests of the partners in the project to effectively achieve objectives
Manage knowledge
Facilitating structured knowledge capture and exchange to work effectively and efficiently observing the degrees of creative freedom and protecting (IP) interests.
Ensure a strong cross organizational team approach
Reinforcing “self organization” to address Cultural Requirements with quality communication and interaction.
A customized “Collaborative Knowledge Platform” (CKP) will support this.
WijmanCoaching partnered with Acanthis Document Solutions to ensure a comprehensive, focused and customized solution.
