The image that is used for the newspaper advertisement need to be clear to the audience so that they know what the image is trying to represent. The image is always relevant to the programme, but it is always striking to capture the audience’s attention. The image always tries to create shock, intrigue or humour which is what caches the audience’s attention.

The image is also engaging to the audience so they will want to watch the programme. For example this newspaper advertisement clearly shows what the programme is about, as it shows people sitting in the waiting room in the hospital but also in the background you can see how someone is being rushed on a hospital bed, the fact that it is blurry it shows that it is happening in fast motion, which may intrigue the audience.

The colour scheme is also very important as they need to fit with the colour scheme of the image but also, the colours need to be bold, eye- catching and to be able to

grab the audience’s attention. To persuade the audience to what the programme. Here the blue colour scheme fits in with the topic of the documentary as this is what people usually associate with hospitals.

The channel 4 logo is placed is placed on the left hand side of the newspaper and this is where it is placed in every channel 4 newspaper advert. The fact that it is big and bold makes it stand out from the page so the audience knows what channel the programme is going to be aired on.

The title of the programme “24 Hours in A&E” had been made bigger than the rest of the text on the newspaper advertisement. So that this is the first thing that the audience sees, followed by the rest of the information.

The tagline is written in a smaller font under the title of the programme. The tagline is there to catch the audience’s attention and is usually something catchy so that the audience would want to watch the programme.

The scheduling information always comes after the slogan or the tagline. The scheduling information always gives the day, date and time the documentary is going to be aired on, so the audience knows when to tune in to watch the documentary.

The style of the newspaper advert always fits in with the brand for example there are

always colour blocks for channel for. The colour of the blocks fits in with the colour scheme of the newspaper advertisement.

Sometimes there is a slogan as well as a tagline. The purpose of the slogan is to catch the audience's attention and is always a catchy phrase that has something to do with the programme, and usually fits in with the main image.

The font is always simple, clear and easy to read and understand for the audience.
