#ACSCC16Oct 12-17
On Oct 17, there were a little over 30M impressions from the ACS meeting (as of Oct 18the number is >50 M)
#ACSCC16Oct 12-17
2nd most impressions were delivered by Dr. Julio Mayol…
Dr. Mayol was unable to attend the meeting in personthis year – hence he’s created a wave virtually!
This was the historical model of meeting attendance and knowledge acquisition
Now everyone in attendance has a smart phone – a powerfulAudio-capture device, camera, and dissemination tool all in one.
There have been many blog posts written about the subject of
recording/capturing meeting information…
In 2014, Dr. Maidment discussed her data at an international meeting in Berlin. A debate ensued about proper etiquette for
sharing information on social media during a meeting.
The reality is that most do not think there is a boundary between the real world and the world of social media. Hence a better
approach is to think of both as one and the same.
The underlying principles of open science, and of good science communication, are all about
sharing.
Tips
• Assume your presentation will be tweeted.• If you have Data/Results are sensitive– On the first slide state: “Please, no social media”– On every slide in your presentation, post this
image– End your presentation with: “Please, no social
media”
Best Practice
Organizations should develop Meeting Code of Conduct. In it, explicitly state the policy regarding social media, and sharing
content of the media during the meeting. At the time of meeting registration, provide link to the code of conduct. Provide timely
reminders of this code during sessions.
