Independent Daily Reading Levels=Approximately 1 level below Guided Reading Levels
During IDR (Independent Daily Reading), recommendations include:
•allowing students to read self-selected texts •conferring with each student•supporting students who are struggling •helping each student apply what he/she is learning during mini-lessons into his/her independent reading
Resources to Support Text for IDR During Learning Stations and Mini Lessons
During IDR Conferences the students aren't taught anything new because the focus is on reinforcing what was taught during the whole-group lessons. Conferring with students shouldn't last more than 5 minutes, and in some cases, it might consist of a quick check-in to see how the student is progressing through a text.
