Christmas is one of the most solemnly

celebrated festivals in Poland…

On 24 December Polish people celebrate Christmas

Eve - ,,Wigilia’’ . They decorate Christmas tree with

baubles, chains and candies.

On Christmas Eve Polish people eat dinner with their

families - it starts when in the sky appears the first star.

We have a lot of traditional dishes. For example - ,,Barszcz

Czerwony z Uszkami'' and ,,Kapusta z Grochem'' (“Red

borsch” with dumplings and “Cabbage with peas”).

On Christmas Eve Polish people sing Christmas carols. The

most popular is ,,Przybieżeli do Betlejem’’ (“They came to

Bethlehem”).

Christmas Eve is completed with a special Mass in the

chuch at midnight - ,,Pasterka’’.

The 25 and 26 December are Christmas holidays. People in

Poland usually meet with their families and friends. Most

people celebrate at home, but some people go away to

relax away.

On Christmas we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. This

festival is very important to me. I love the family

atmosphere that I feel during Christmas!

What are your special customs and holidays?
