CHILDREN AT WORK -Children had an unhappy childhood. -They worked hard to satisfy the needs of their parents because families were very poor and they didn't have enough money, so children worked. -They underwent very difficult conditions of employment. -Days were long for them : eight or twelve hours a day, six days a week. 3.

  • - Parents of rich children often were bankers , merchants , industrials orcivil servants . They livedin beautiful suburbs , sometimesin private hotels . The upper class organized partiesand could go to festivals whereas the poor worked .

12. WHO WENT TO SCHOOLS DURING THE VICTORIAN TIMES?

  • - In early Victorian England , most children never went to school and did not read or write .
  • - Instead they worked to earn money for their families . Only the upperand middle class children went to school .

13. EDUCATION FOR BOYS

  • Only children from rich families went to school . But these ones were not many .
  • Boys werein famous schools like Eton(in London) where education was very strict .

14. EDUCATION FOR GIRLS

  • - Girls didn't have the same educationas boys .
  • - They learned to become good wivesand good mothers .

15. EDUCATION ACT

  • - In 1870, the Education Act offered schools for all children between the ageof 5 and 13.
