9th and 10th Grade Checklist
• Strive for academic excellence and regular school attendance (CHECHS and SJC grades will be included on your high school transcript and in your high school GPA)
• Develop a four year plan with your high school counselor
• Attend CCISD College Night• Attend CCISD Financial Aid Night• Develop your interests in extracurricular
and community activities.

• Take the PSAT October of your sophomore year
• Go to My Sat Plan on www.collegeboard.com after your receive your PSAT Score Report and identify your strengths and determine the areas that you need improvement
• Create a personal file or portfolio that contains copies of your report cards, certificates presented to you, list of awards and honors your receive, and lists of all school and community clubs/organizations including offices you hold.

Internship Program Overview
• Internship is a very important component of our program.• Internship is done in the spring of the
junior year and the fall of the senior year.• We have aligned our program with the
traditional high schools.• Senior dates: Aug. 30-Nov. 19
Program Requirements
Student has mentor in chosen field of interest.Student completes 3 hours a week at their
mentorship.Student develops/works on a project while at
mentorship and throughout the semester.Students keep a portfolio of their work and project
through out the semester.Student presents their project in a final presentation
here at school or at the mentor’s place of business.
Mentor ResponsibilitiesRequired Paperwork: –Work with the student to determine their
specific responsibilities and/or duties, their schedule and expected dress code during the initial Pre-Field Interview. –Verify intern attendance with your signature
on their weekly time log.–Evaluate intern performance on the provided
evaluation form at the 4 week and 9 week mark.
Mentor Responsibilities
•Minimum Hours Required:–Allow the intern to spend time each
week at the work site. A minimum of 3 hours per week must be completed.–Assist students in the development
and completion of project chosen for the semester.
Mentor Responsibilities
• General Role of Mentor:– Serve as representative of career or degree area by introducing
intern to company, industry, or business.– Provide the intern with comprehensive view of organization
and focus on the roles, responsibilities, & functions of business.– Share information regarding the skills, knowledge, and/or
background that are the essential to be successful in your position.
– Offer opportunities for the intern to do independent projects.– Share the positive as well as the negative aspects of the job.– Provide supervision or designate someone to oversee intern
projects.– Assist the intern in identifying realistic goals.– Communicate problems to the Internship Program Coordinator.
Student Responsibilities
• Requirements:
– Interns must complete a Pre-Field Interview with their mentor.– Time logs must be signed on a weekly basis and turned in
weekly showing that the student has completed 3 hours a week.– One journal entry must be completed each week via E4,
questions can be found on student’s E4 class site.– Interns must turn in a digital picture of themselves interacting
with the mentor.– Interns must complete a midterm presentation to the internship
coordinator.– Interns must complete a final presentation of their project at
school or at the mentor’s place of business.
Student Responsibilities Continued
– Interns must develop a project with the guidance of their mentors that is worked on through out the semester.
– Interns must complete 3 Interviews.– Interns must complete a portfolio that is due at the end
of the semester, information regarding this assignment is on their E4 account.
– Interns must hand write a Thank you note to the mentor at the end of the semester.
– Interns are responsible for obtaining the mentor’s evaluation forms and getting the form turned in to the Internship Program Coordinator.
Student Responsibilities
• On-Site:– Interns must arrange for their own transportation to and
from the internship site.– Interns are advised to seek responsibilities within the
organization to enhance learning experiences.– Interns should complete all assignments on or before the
deadline assigned by the mentor. – Interns must demonstrate good attendance and grooming,
accuracy, orderliness, promptness, maturity, appropriate dress and proper business etiquette and professionalism while on-site.
Teacher Responsibilities
• Assist students with contacting/finding mentors.• Give students the tools to be successful in a professional
environment.• Available to all mentors during and after business hours.• Meet with students regularly to ensure success and proper
guidance.• Respond to all concerns in a timely manner.• Monitor student progress in internship.• Keep in contact with all mentors to head-off problems
before they begin.• Form community partnerships that last for years to come.
Goals
• Student will gain invaluable experience in their field of interest that helps them to further understand their chosen career path.
• Students gain knowledge and understanding of a professional setting.
• Mentor will have an enjoyable experience and hopefully continue to partner with us.
• Program grows and expands each year to incorporate more mentors.
Service Learning Program Overview
• Service Learning combines service objectives and learning objectives with the intent that the activity changes both the recipient and the provider of the service. This is accomplished by combining service tasks with structured opportunities that link the task to self-reflection, self-discovery, and the acquisition and comprehension of values, skills, and knowledge content.
Service Learning Overview
• Students are introduced to Service Learning in their advisory classes.
• It is a mandatory requirement of all CHECHS students each year 9th-12th.
• The advisory teacher works with students to meet all requirements of Service Learning and all hours are turned in to the advisory teacher.
• Requirements and all documentation located on blackboard under Service Learning Org.
Service Learning Requirements• 20 hours completed within the school year.• Maximum of 10 of those hours can benefit CHECHS.• All 20 can be done outside of CHECHS.• Hours due by Dec. 16th
• Plan approved by advisory teacher.• Power Point Presentation to advisory class. These will be
done in January.• Self-Reflection paper.• Signed log.• A list of possible opportunities, past organizations used, and
new opportunities are located under the Service Learning Org.
Service Learning Letter Jacket
• Students are allowed to letter in Service Learning at CHECHS.
• Jacket must be bought by student.• 150 hours of Service Learning must be done.• 50 hours must be done per school year,
meaning not all can be done in the summer.• Maximum of 50 hours with one organization.
We are pleased to introduce Family Connection from Naviance, a web-based service designed especially for students and parents. Family Connection is a comprehensive website that you can use to help in making decisions about courses, colleges, and careers. Family Connection is linked with Counselor’s Office, a service that counselor’s use in their office to track and analyze data about college and career plans, so it provides up-to-date information that is specific to our school.

College AdmissionsEach college/university has its own admissions
criteria– It is up to you, as the applicant, to be aware of the
different eligibility requirements–This information can be found on the
college/university’s website, under the Admissions link–Some general information about the institution
can be found in Naviance Family Connection – simply select a school of interest from the college search list by clicking on the institution’s name
Applying to College
•Apply Texas (www.applytexas.org)–For those students interested in
attending a public university within the state of Texas, this form will allow you to fill out one application and submit it to multiple colleges
Applying to College
• Common Application (www.commonapp.org)–This form allows students to fill out one
application and submit it to multiple universities within the US–Currently, there are 345 institutions (both
public and private nationally) that accept the common app – visit the website to see if the schools you are applying to accept it

common application and require an application specific to their institution – visit the college’s website to see what application you need to submit

Financial Aid
There are various forms of financial assistance–Grants – typically need based, money that is
awarded that does not need to be repaid–Scholarships – could be merit or need based,
money that is awarded that does not need to be repaid–Loans – money that is borrowed for school that
will be repaid upon completion of college
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
All students should fill out the FAFSA– This application will determine how much federal grant money can
be allotted to you– Most colleges/universities require the FAFSA be on file before you
will be considered for school specific scholarships– This application will also determine how much money can be
offered to you in loan money
To apply:– 1. Visit www.pin.ed.gov to apply for your Personal Identification
Number (PIN) that allows you to sign the FAFSA electronically– 2. Visit www.fafsa.ed.gov to fill out and submit the FAFSA
