The relative pronoun cuyo corresponds to whose.

It functions as an adjective an agrees with the noun it introduces, and not with the posessor.

¿Conoces al estudiante cuya hermana es ingeniera?

Do you know the student whose sister is an engineer?

El candidato, cuyas cartas de recomendación Ud. leyó, ha llegado.

The candidate, whose letters of recommendation you read, has arrived.

La Sra. Montero, en cuyo despacho trabajé el verano pasado, es mexicana.

Mrs. Montero, in whose office I worked last summer, is Mexican.

A conditional clause describes what would have happened if certain

conditions had been met.Ex. Si hubiera pasado por el banco,

habría comprado cheques viajeros.

If I had passed by the bank,

I would have bought travelers checks.

Ex. Si hubieran sabido, no habrían

compañías de petroleo.

If you had known, you would not

have invested in oil company stocks.

A quien (whom) may replace que as the direct object in a more formal style.

La persona vimos esta manana es el presidente de la compañía.

The pronouns el que or el cual may replace quien and que for clarity and emphasis.

This is usually after prepositions other than a, de, en, and con.

The forms of el que and el cual agree with the nouns they represent.

¿Cómo se llama la compañía para la que (para la cual) trabajas?

What is the name of the company for which you are working?
