A short project based on St George legend!

Enric Calvet, 2014

It all started when telling St George legend...

“Teacher, teacher! why don’t we draw a castle?”

All right! But, do you know how to draw it?

“Yes, of course!”

Are you sure?

“Mmmm...”

What do you want to know?

First, let’s observe these books from our school library!

Look at the towers, the keep, the merlets, the moat, the barbican, the bridge ...

What’s the difference between a

Palace and a Castle?

Wow! Lots of new vocabulary!

“Ok! But, can we draw our own castle?

Can we invent it? A different shape? An imaginary castle?”

Why not!?

Let’s think about it!

“I have made my own coat of arms”

“I want my castle very big and strong... Full of towers... And with a deep moat”.

We also geolocalize the castles in the world, chosing different countries, or places in the Earth

Some children wanted to fill the castle with characters from the legend using our special stamps

Some other, mixed stamps and drawing

Only the king, the princess, the dragon, St George, and one or two knights, like in the legend...

... Or a complete battle with soldiers and everything!

Time for writing!

Some children chose “standard” writing, describing the castle, ...

... telling where is it...

...who lives in it, ghosts ...

...And even inventing a new legend!

A GREAT OUTCOME!

Some other children wrote a long dialogue between the main characters...

Or a short one with imaginary characters!

Finally, a big display in the class with the imaginary castles

And another in the corridor... Everybody wanted to do more than one!

A short project based on St George legend!
