Regional Centers of Expertise on ESD - RCE

A RCE is thought as a network that is designed to strengthen the collaboration for ESD among regional and local actors. The localized network is voluntary, flexible and inclusive (United Nations University – UNU: RCE concept paper).

The objective of the Environmental Forums and Educational Workshops, which are carried out with the proposed theme for each year by the Decade, is creating a Citizen Environmental Culture for the people of Bogota.

These events are free of charge, they are open to public participation besides students, teachers and researchers interested in environmental issues and interested in orienting our city towards sustainability.

The work of planning and carrying out the different Educational Forums and Conferences is collaborative, cooperative and through an interdisciplinary team of professionals who belong to the 12 Universities which are members of the RCE Bogota. Each institution that is participating is responsible for the organization, both academically and logistically of each of the events.

The lecturers involved in the Forums and the Educational Workshops are experts in the subjects proposed by the Decade. The lecturers are invited to submit their contributions and create an open dialogue with the participants. There is always a space for discussion and public input in each forum

The conferences are spaces to socialize Pedagogical research experiences and projects developed by communities and students on issues related to Education for Sustainability.

The closure of the session is done at the end of each event with some conclusions that are created together with the participants. The purpose is promoting actions that contribute to friendly environmental changes in both the individual and the collective life of the participants.

To the present there have been 40 Educational Forums and Conferences, with an average attendance of 200 participants per event.

Having completed the Environmental Forums and Educational Conference each year, the best papers presented are assessed and collected to organize the publication of the respective memoirs, which were published in a physical version and in 2 digital books until 2012.
