Our Role

Our St. Lawrence College team plays a critical role in both the regional and provincial economic development efforts. Our Workforce Development Initiative provides a life-long learning partnership between higher education and regional organizations:

Corporate Learning and Performance Improvement (CLPI) has had the privilege of providing programs that support the professional development and skills training needs of business, industry, and government for Central & Eastern Ontario.

Corporate and Government investment in continuous learning strategically positions a company’s workforce for regional economic development and future growth. Building a more productive, educated and skilled workforce by upgrading the current skills and retraining the workforce in the local area remains the primary objective of Corporate Learning and Performance Improvement.

The key to corporate learning success rests in the development of partnerships, strategic alliances with the community and collaborative relationships working with the local, regional, and provincial & federal governments.

CLPI serves small, medium and large manufacturing, healthcare, retail and service businesses located in Central & Eastern Ontario. Courses have the ability to be customized with short-term training programs which meet business and industry training needs. These professional development or technical training programs can be hosted at your site, or are held at any one of our three conveniently located campusesin Kingston, Brockville, or Cornwall.

CLPI also works closely with Federal, Provincial and Municipal Government organizations offering them a variety of product options from strategic planning to front line customer service with a very successful focus on management and supervisory training.

Our training gives employees the personal, interpersonal and group skills to be influential in one-on-one situations, facilitate group performance and become effective leaders and team members.

Our programs provide the following deliverables:

• Professional Development training programs are designed for organizations who want to create an enthusiastic culture that strengthens relationships with their customers and creates a positive working environment for their employees,

• Planning, organizing, leading, and motivating are the main responsibilities of management. We have training for all aspects of these management/ supervisory roles,

• New supervisors will develop the crucial management tools to help lead and motivate your team to enhance employee engagement,

Our team runs community youth employment programs for youth. We partner with Service Canada and the Provincial Government to develop training programs that provide essential skills in areas where job demand is strong and where sector growth exists such as:

• Construction skills, • Small engine repair, • Bicycle repair,• Heavy equipment operator, • Apprentice masonry skills, • Food service and culinary skills, • Carpentry skills, • Entrepreneurship,• Health and safety programs, • Horticulture techniques,

The community youth programs group also delivers similar employability skills programs to offenders incarcerated in Ontario’s Federal penitentiaries. With a focus on pathways to trades and entrepreneurship. Our partnership with Correctional Service Canada offers similar programs to at risk youth and seeks to support offenders’ integration back into the workforce.

We are very proud of this partnership and have developed many innovative skills based programs to assist offenders in their reintegration to society. Over the past four years we have built four Habitat for Humanity homes and trained offenders in the community

Employment Service – St Lawrence College offers skills development, career preparation and job matching services across Eastern Ontario (Kingston, Ottawa, and Sharbot Lake with itinerant services in Sydenham and Verona.)

St. Lawrence College Career Services and Placement Services encourages students to take ownership of their career direction early in their college experience. The Career Services and Placement Services culture promotes individuals to devote time and energy to conduct career exploration activities, placement experiences, and future training & education opportunities.

The mission of this division is to educate, motivate, and support our students and alumni to develop plans & take action to achieve current and future career goals. We accomplish this through high quality interactions, digital services and resources in partnership with students, faculty, alumni and employers.

Leveraging innovative technology, Career Services offers precision matching capabilities for job seekers and employers through our job board (where there are currently over 400 jobs posted) allowing students to search, find and share jobs and opportunities.

SLC Works

SLCWorks provides Entrepreneurs access to resources they need to succeed – from mentorship, government grants, workshops, labour market intelligence to regional network access.

The Business Development team has worked with over 150 SMEs and entrepreneurs in 2015 supporting their growth and prosperity. Obsessed with start-ups and regional market development, our team is a key pillar in regional economic development and workforce optimization.
