The land that ―Bungarribee House‖ was built on in
1825, was the first land grant given in Blacktown.
Bungarribee means, ―the resting place of the king‖.
Bungaroo.
The house was built entirely
of imported bricks and stone and with local timber.
No nails were used in its construction; all joints were
held precisely by wooden pegs, showing the true
tradesmanship of the times.

Editors quote for the week!
A birthday is just the first day of another 365-day
journey around the sun. Enjoy your trip!.
Awardees Gail, Josie and Khalid—Congratulations!
Congratulations Members!
We celebrate 50 years of
service to the community!
Dear members of
Blacktown City Rotary Club and Friends of Rotary,
Congratulations on achieving your milestone of 50
years. In today's cut and thrust, fast paced world
and one where often the personal "me generation"
will take precedence over community service, it is
refreshing, and indeed, amazing that a club will last
for 50 years. You must be doing something right!
Indeed, recently Blacktown Apex celebrated its 50
years on 13 August 2011, a feat not matched by
very many stuggling clubs throughout Australia to-
day. As an ex-Apexian myself I often share a Rotary
function with colleagues from the past and it seems
Blacktown must be a very fertile ground.
I would love to see Blacktown prosper in the future
and be a role model for younger clubs as you pro-
ceed to the merger with clubs in District 9750 to
form our new District 9685.
Congratulations once again on your great achieve-
ment and to President Zena, have a wonderful night
on Tuesday.
Yours in Rotary Service

President Zena and Members of the Rotary Club of Blacktown City,
It is an honour to be able to congratulate the Rotary
Club of Blacktown City Inc. on the occasion of the
50th Anniversary of its Charter.
To write about its achievements was difficult as they
are so many and varied. So I thought I would do it this way. However, I cannot possibly do the club justice.
I remember an old song which my mum taught me

President Zena and Members of
Rotary Club of Blacktown City,
Congratulations your 50th Anniversary within Rotary
International a great achievement!.
Whilst I have only been associated with the Club over
the past 11 years, I have marveled at the contribution
that the members have made and continue to make
to not only the world of Rotary but more importantly
the world itself, and I know that this level of commit-
ment would have commenced from the day of the
Clubs Charter and will be so for many more years to
come. The Rotary Club of Blacktown City is a true
example of ―Service Above Self‖.
The contribution that you have made to the local com-
munity is truly amazing and you all should be justly
proud of the high esteem that the Club is held within
that community of Blacktown. I will not try to list all
the achievements that I know of as I am sure that
you do not need me to write a novel, but rest assured
Blacktown is a much better community because of
you.
On a personal note Julia & I have always enjoyed
our association with the Club and look forward to
sharing many more good times with you.
Happy Birthday Rotary Club of Blacktown City
Paul & Julia Reid
District 9690 Governor 2009-10
There are as many reasons to support The Rotary
Foundation as there are ways to do good in the world.
By donating to the Foundation, you support Rotary's six areas of focus, which help advance world under-
standing, goodwill, and peace through the improve-
ment of health, the support of education, and the alle-
viation of poverty. Contributions to the Every Rotar-ian, Every Year (EREY) initiative, are the primary
source of funding for Foundation programs. By giving US$100 a year through EREY, you become a Rotary
Foundation Sustaining Member.
Here are two ways your contributions are changing lives around the world.
1— Fighting hunger
In Romania, children have eggs, milk, and meat be-cause of a Foundation grant that enables local farm-
ers to buy animal feed, packaging materials, and other supplies. The farmers agree to donate a portion of
their products to children's hos-
pitals, schools, and orphanages.
2—Reducing child mortality
The Rotary clubs of Jaela-Kandana, Western Province, Sri
Lanka, and Madras Northwest, Tamil Nadu, India, are helping to reduce child mortality
by providing improved sanitation facilities for 15 fami-lies in a small community in Sri Lanka. With a Rotary
Foundation Matching Grant, the clubs have built 14 toilets, helping to prevent the spread of diarrhoea-
causing diseases related to poor sanitation. Source: http://www.rotary.org/en/MediaAndNews/TheRotarian/Pages/

We‘ve golden soil and wealth for toil, our home is girt by sea.
Our land abounds in nature‘s gifts, of beauty rich and rare,
In history‘s page let every stage, Advance Australia Fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing, Advance Australia Fair.
2nd Verse
Beneath our radiant Southern Cross, we'll toil with hearts and hands;
To make this Commonwealth of ours, renowned of all the lands;
For those who've come across the seas we've boundless plains to
share;
With courage let us all combine, to Advance Australia Fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing, Advance Australia Fair
