Main Purpose of the Novel

• The novel, Bordering Fires, was my favorite book read in the class.

• The book lets the reader hear the voices of Chicano people and their experiences. The book tells you their history, how their voices are heard, cultures, and migration to the US

How to Tame a Wild Tongue• The chapter shows that people tell the

main character to control his tongue. But, the character believes and respects his culture and its language.

• The main character points out how their language and dialects is dying because less people are starting to speak spanish.

• When people come to the United States, they are told to speak English, and practice the English language.

• But since the language is becoming unknown, the culture is dying with the language.

• It describes how many do not want to mix cultures because they want to keep their culture alive.

India• In this chapter, the main

character describes the history of Mexico. It tells how many people in Mexico, are Indian.

• The main character being born in the California, notices that he is Mexican, but he looks like he could be Indian.

• The character travels to Mexico and learns the history in Mexico.

• He learns the history of Mexico, and how it became religious.

• He also starts to understand who he really is, and is proud of his ethnicity.

• The chapter tells the experience of children trying to cross the border to be with their family.

• Many times children get caught or hurt while trying to cross.
