What is Citizenship?

Who Am I?This Nobel Peace Prize winner never gave up on his dream even though he suffered many personal attacks; such as having his house bombed and being stabbed by another citizen.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

Who Am I?Adopted by a Kansasfarmer and his wife, as a child was instilled with a strong moral compass. Very early he started to display superhuman abilities, which upon reaching maturity he resolved to use for the benefit of humanity.

Superman

Who Am I?This person initiated a year-long boycott which would eventually lead to the Supreme Court decision regarding segregation in Alabama.

Rosa Parks

Who Am I?Traveling home from a night at the movies with his parents, he witnessed the murder of his parents. Since that day, he has sworn to defend the innocent from suffering the same loss

Who Am I?This historical figure demanded that women be given the same civil and political rights that had been extended to black males under the 14th and 15th amendments.

Susan B. Anthony

Who Am I?Too scrawny to serve during World War II, young he bravely volunteered to receive the experimental Super Soldier Serum. Enhanced to the peak of human physical potential, he became the leader of the Avengers, is one of the most respected heroes in the Marvel Universe.

Captain America

Who Am I?He realized that if learning how to read and write was his pathway to freedom, then gaining this knowledge was to become his goal. He gained command of the alphabet on his own and made friends with poor white children he met on errands and used them as teachers. He paid for his reading lessons with pieces of bread. At home he read parts of books and newspapers when he could, but he had to constantly be on guard against his mistress.

Frederick Douglas

Who Am I?In the late 1920's, this historical figure began to work closely with the Commission for Interracial Cooperation and the Y.M.C.A. (Young Men's Christian Association).Wrote a poem titled Equipment. It was a message to all people to inspire them to make the most of their lives. It stressed that they are capable of all things and their biggest downfall would be their own personal desire to succeed.

George Washington Carver

Who Am I?Young people and adults who make a difference day to day in the lives of multiple people, or even just one person. Someone who can be counted on, and is respected. Someone who is trustworthy and who is there to listen to someone who is having problems and give advice when asked. They may not make noticeable differences in the world, but they make differences in the lives of those around them, and do it solely because they care and not for what they could potentially gain from it.
