Question:

Actually, Who do you think Ruth

really love , Robert or Andrew ,

both or both not ?

Page 3: Beyond the horizon

My view : she loved Robert in spirit and

Andrew in material.

At the very start, Ruth was a woman simple,

enthusiastic , knowing little about life experience

and cruelty . She loved Robert because of Robert’

s sense of poet when she actually was a girl full of

fantasies and beauties. Her love was immature.

When faced difficulties in life, she couldn’t make

Change, complained about all her misfortunes,

and thought all these were brought by Robert’s

incompetence.

Then, She began to think about Andrew’s

goodness and regretted her marriage to

Robert .she told Robert she loved Andrew, which

could be sensed that She regarded Andrew as

her lifeboat to give a new hope. She wanted to

escape from the hardness. And Andrew was a

better choice for her to live a good life.

To some degree, Ruth’s tragedy is just

about everyone who have hard choices

between spirit and material.

And I think she was more tragical

compared with Robert and Andrew.

Because Robert had his dream“beyond

the horizon”, Andrew explored

new life and desired to change ,but

she had nothing.

the two man whoever she loved or

chose, it would be a tragedy. It was

called fatalism.
