Bee-Bots at St Michael’s School
What is a Bee-Bot
A programmable floor robot for Early Years and Primary
A starting point for teaching control, directional language and programming to young children
How have we used them in KB?
We learnt about the commands- forwards, backwards, left turn, right turn, clear
and go
We pretended to be Bertie and played a game using dice and the sequencing cards to learn the commands
How have we used them in KB?
We explored during developmental play and learnt how to move Bertie around the treasure island.
Working Together
Posing Problems
We had to communicate and work co-operativelyto reach our goals
A sense of achievement
How have we used them in KB?
We used them during Science investigations. Some of us were able to program two Bee-bots at once. It looked like they were dancing!
How have we used them in KB?
We programmed Bertie to move to the pictures from our Big Book starting at the beginning and moving to the end.
We told him about the story as he moved to each picture.
By the end we had used 18 commands in a sequence to get him to the end of the story in the correct order.
We used the sequencing cards to help us.
Bertie learnt about our Big Book
How have we used them in KB?
Bertie joined our Maths groups
We had to roll the dice, enter the correct number of commands, and see who could be the first to collect each of the 2D shapes.
How have we used them in KB?
We made a map of our school on a grid mat and took Bertie on a tour.
We wrote a sentence about where he had been.
