Date: December 31st 1862 -January 2nd 1863

Reasons of importance Chance of British and French aid was destroyed with confederate loss One of the most causalities in a single battle. There was about 23,000 in total. The Union and the confederacy were in desperate need of a victory

Legacy of the battle Historians such as larry j. Daniel and Peter Cozzens have poured a lot of time and effort into giving the battle of stones river a good name. they both wrote books to help the cause of the battle. They both want this battle to be named beside battles such as Shiloh and Gettysburg.

New years day 1863 After the first day of combat, there was a quick truce to gather the wounded/dead. The fighting was quickly resumed.

During the battle During the battle it seemed as if the confederates might pull out a victory. But, the union had a really good last day to catch up and ultimately defeat the confederacy. The union would go on to have a lot of success in Tennessee after the win in Murfreesboro.

The Battlefield Today The battlefield today is now a park and anyone can go take a tour of the park as long as the sun is out. The park is closed when the sun goes down. There is a cemetery for the fallen soldiers across the street from the park.
