Introduction to Unit on Reading & Writing Plays

1.  Students will read the following plays:• A Doll's House, Henrik Ibsen• Master Harold...and the Boys, Athol Fugard• The Cherry Orchard, Anton Chekov• A Raisin in the Sun, Lorraine Hansberry    

3. Students will brainstorm in groups.  What global issue could be addressed in a play that they will write?

2. Students will discuss plays & how they addressed social issues of the times.

4. Write, Write, Write! 

derive solutions to global problemsinvent & explore unconventional solutions using fiction genrepractice writing narrative & dialogue

• connect via Internet with 12th grade classroom in another city/country

• discuss portrayal of global issues in plays

• exchange plays on blog• perform best voted plays

via Internet
