Audience Feedback of ‘Addiction’- Evaluation

I gathered this information by creating a survey on ‘www.surveymonkey.com’, so that my targeted audience could feedback their views and opinions on my music magazine, ‘Addiction’.

1. How well do you think the magazine was structured and displayed in comparison to other magazines of this genre?Feedback:

Very well It was very good considering it was only the first issue It is well structured, similar to other magazines of this genre, such as ‘NME’ It was displayed well and I thought that its structure was on par with the likes of

‘NME’ I thought your magazine was very well laid out. In comparison to the genre, it was

well related It isn’t quite at the standard of ‘NME’ and ‘Q’; this may be due to a bit of cluttering

with the cover lines on the front page… I thought that the magazine was structured very well compared to other magazines.

It will certainly make the market more competitive for magazines such as ‘NME’ and ‘Q’

I thought that the structure wasn’t bad, but the cover lines are too bunched together. For me its isn’t as good as ‘NME’

Overall, my targeted audience thought that my magazine had a good structure. One person mentioned that it is similar to ‘NME’ and another said that the structure was on par with ‘NME’. This is good feedback because this provides evidence that my magazine may be able to compete with the other top magazines on the market. However, there was some negative feedback. It was mentioned that the cover lines of the front page were cluttered and bunched together too much on the front page. After seeing this feedback I will adjust and adapt my magazine so that the cover lines have more space and look more professional. I could do this by researching other magazines on the market and see how they do it. By fixing this issue, it could lead to the cover lines being enhanced and standing out more amongst the rest of the page.

2. How well did you think the magazine connoted a indie/rock genre?

Feedback:

It was connoted very well It has valid info about indie rock stuff Very well Very well, all the elements including camera shots It was very indie

Page 2: Audience feedback -evaluation

I thought that it conveyed the genre very well. By looking at it you instantly knew the genre was indie rock.

It done it very well, mainly due to the colour scheme and the fonts You could tell by the bands shown on the front cover

Overall, the results show that my audience thought that my magazine connoted an indie rock genre very well. The key components that were mentioned were the colour scheme, fonts, camera shots and the bands implemented. This shows that these components were a huge success and I will continue to use them in the future because they portrayed to the audience the exact genre of my music magazine

3. How well did you think the magazine linked to the audience that was targeted?Feedback:

Being the target audience, I enjoyed it so it did link well It is good for people who like indie music It linked very well because it represented their styles and interests Yes very well It was good for people of an indie social group Being a member of the targeted audience, I thought that it linked very well into my interests I thought it linked very well, I also think a slightly older generation may like it Very well

Overall, these results clearly show that the magazine I created has linked well to the audience that was targeted. Judging from the feedback, the reasons for this seemed to be because the magazine represented the styles and interests of the audience. This therefore, grabs their attention and draws them in to buy it. Another very positive peace of feedback mentioned that a slightly older generation may like the magazine. This is very good because this expands my audience, meaning that my magazine will be more of a competition with the likes of ‘NME’ and ‘Q’.

4. Do you think the colour scheme used was relevant to the magazines genre? why?Feedback:

Yes because it showed the style of the genre The colour scheme is good for an indie rock magazine Yes, because it stood out to the viewer drawing their attention Very well as it helped all cover lines and articles to stand out on the page enticing the

reader to read the article Yes the colours represented the style of music very well I thought that it was relevant, but I still slightly prefer the white, black and red Yes, however it became slightly repetitive on every page Yes because it allowed the genre to be shown clearly

The overall results from this connote that the majority of my audience felt that the colours scheme of my magazine connoted the unique indie rock style. It was mentioned that the colour scheme helped all the cover lines and articles to stand out. This is good feedback because if this is the case then the reader will want to read on and see more about that specific cover line/article. One criticism received from the

Page 3: Audience feedback -evaluation

feedback was that the colour scheme became slightly repetitive because it was on every page, together with someone mentioning that they prefer the white, black and red theme. I will deal with this by adopting a different approach next time and use different colours on other pages in the magazine; maybe to represent specific bands and artists. This way it won’t be as repetitive.

5. Do you think the font styles used were relevant to the magazines genre? why?Feedback:

Oh yes, they had a style which matched the genre The fonts are very indie and good Yes because they had a rock looking style to them Yes they all connoted the indie rock genre very well Font styles were awesome Yes because they were very bold and had a specific style which conveyed rock musicality Yes they were quite unique and came across well Yes, I liked how they related to the bands individually

Overall, this feedback was very good because all the feedback complemented the relevance of my font styles. One mentioned that the fonts had a specific style which conveyed rock musicality. This is very good because this connotes that the magazine and fonts have very good relevance to each other. Someone else also said that they liked how the font related to the bands individually. Due to this feedback, I will continue to use this technique because it is obviously appealing to the audience.

6. Has the magazine enticed you to continue to buy it in the future? why?Feedback:

Yes it seems good Yes very exciting because it had loads of info Yes because it had a variety of information which was interesting to me Yes, I enjoyed the artists Sort of, it has some wicked stuff Yes because the information was straight to the point Maybe but I prefer Q I will but not often because I usually buy nme

The feedback that I have received from this question was quite positive because the majority of people said that they would buy the magazine in the future. Their reasons for this were because of the amount and variation of information, the artists used, and the straight to the point style. I will continue to do this in my magazine so that the audience keep interested and my magazine is more competitive. However, some people said that they still prefer other magazines such as ‘Q’ and ‘NME’. With these being the main competition, I will have to research them more so that I can adapt by magazine so that it exceeds their popularity.

7. Did you think the magazine had sufficient/relevant information? why?Feedback:

Yes I found it interesting

Page 4: Audience feedback -evaluation

Rather have information that is more detailed Yes, it has good info including interviews Yes it had a lot of information on a variety of different things such as bands and

interviews Yes it did contain very good and enticing articles Sort of, but there was to many images of the same guy Yes because it all linked to the genre and there was a lot of information

Overall the feedback was mainly positive towards the information in my magazine. This included people saying that the information was linked to the genre well, it contained good articles and interviews. This will entice me to use this is the future and build upon it so that more of my audience will find it interesting. However, someone mentioned that they would rather information that is more detailed and someone else said that the images were too repetitive. I will sort this issue by reducing the amount of pictures and including more information, thusly giving the audience more of a story to read about.

8. Did you think that the price of the magazine was too high, too low, or about right?Feedback:

Too low Too low Too high It was ok Too low, people may get put off and think its cheap for a reason Way to high Just right Just right

I received a mixed view about the price of the magazine, some people thought it was too low, some thought it was too high and some thought it was about right. One comment mentioned that if its too low then people might think it’s cheap because it isn’t very good. So I will analyse the price and compare it to others on the market so that it becomes a suitable price.

9. Did you think that the main attraction of the magazine was suitable?Feedback:

Yes Yes Yes, had good music style Yes I found it interesting Yes Yes it was awesome Yes it was clearly portrayed and was very interesting I would have preferred a more popular band

These results show that the main attraction of the magazine was a success in the opinion of most of my audience. However, someone mentioned that they would prefer a more popular band. This could work to

Page 5: Audience feedback -evaluation

my advantage, because if I have a popular band on the front then the audience are more likely to be interested and want to buy the magazine.

10. Could you suggest any improvement for the magazine?Feedback:

More interviews More reviews More info in the article Not really, it was well produced More about other festivals No More interviews

The feedback for improvements of my magazine shows that my audience want me to include more interviews, more reviews, more information in articles and more festivals. I will use this feedback and embed the components that they want into my future magazines so that the audience get drawn into it even more. By including these improvements, this will make my magazine become more competitive on the market for other music magazines such as ‘NME’ and ‘Q’.
