Educational technology

• Educational technology is the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using and managing appropriate technological processes and resources.

• Educational technology is used in the process of developing human capability

Explanation and meaning

• Educational technology is an array of tools that might prove helpful in advancing student learning.

• Those who employ educational technologies to explore ideas and communicate meaning are learners or teachers.

• It is marked by the increasing complexity and sophistication of devices

• Technology replacing teachers

• Visual education and visual instruction

• Audiovisual education, audiovisual instruction and audiovisual devices

• Instructional media in school museums

Films

• Silent films were produced for instructional use

• Administrative units take charge of films and related media

• Films never reached the influence predicted

Problems:

• Teachers' lack of skill

• The cost of films, equipment, etc.

• Inaccessibility of equipment when needed

Radio

• Commercial and educational stations

• Radio did not have the impact its advocates had hoped

Problems:

• Poor audio reception and the cost of equipment

• Lack of fit between the broadcasts and teachers' agendas

• It was abandoned when television became available

Television

• World War II provided a boost for audiovisual education

• Rapid development of educational television stations (public)

Computer

• It was not until the 1980s, and the appearance of microcomputers, that many educators and public officials became enthusiastic about computers

• by 2000 there war an average of one computer for every five students

• with 97 percent of schools having Internet connections

Provide clear statements of what learners should be able to do following instruction
