INTRODUCTION
Reading of supplementary readers in a method of
introducing students to up to date information and of meeting
varied needs and interests of pupils. It stimulus additional reading
in the some or related topic this develops initiation and self
direction. Development of critical attitude in pupils and
intellectual potentialities if made possible and though
supplementary readers. It extends and deepens their scientific
interest and cultivates scientific attitude. And it have many
advantages. They on it stimulates scientific interest in pupils,
strengthens linguistic activity, develop literary tastes inculcates
sey study habits and promote independent thinking etc. and the
reference materials are effective aids to learning. Dictionaries,
encyclopedia, magazine, Newsletters, journal, yearbooks, annual
reports, government report etc come under this category
students must be given training in the use of reference books and
it have many advantages.

Reference Materials
The reference books/ materials are effective aids to
learning. Encyclopedia, Magazines, Journal, News letter,
Bibliography, directory, Dictionary, Hand book, yearbook etc..
are come under this category. Students must be given training in
the use of reference books. The utility of the reference materials
depends can the extent it is used, the frequency of its case and the
geiolance provided to pupils.
Advantages of reference Materials
• It supplements classroom instruction.
• It intuits in the pupils self study habits and spirit of self
effort.
• It helps the pupils to workout assignment.
• It stimulates scientific thinking and inculcate the elements
of scientific attitude.

Types of Reference Materials
• Bibliography
A systematic list or enumeration of written works by a
specific author orob a given subject, or that share can or more
common characteristics. (languages, form, period, place of
publication etc). when a bibliographies. A bibliographies may be
published serially or in book form. The person responsible for
compiling a bibliography is the bibliographer.
• Dictionary
A single volume or multivolume reference work containing
brief explanatory entries for terms and topic related to a specific
subject or field of inquiry, usually arranged alphabetically. The
entries in dictionary are usually shorter than those contained in an
encyclopedia con the some subject, bun the work dictionary is
often used in the letters of works that should more appropriately
by care of encyclopedia.

• Directory
A list of people, companies institution, organizations, etc
in the alphabetical or classified order, providing contact
information (Name, address, phone/fax numbers etc) and other
pertinent details in brief format, often published serially. In most
libraries, current directories are scheduled in ready reference or
in the reference stacks.
• Encyclopedia
Encyclopedia is a type of reference work or compendium
holding a comprehensive summary of information from either all
branches of knowledge or a particular branch of knowledge.
Encyclopedia are divided into articles Or entries, which are
usually accessed alphabetically by article name. encyclopedia
entries are longer and more detailed than those in most
dictionaries. Generally speaking unlike dictionary entries, which
focus can linguistic information about words, encyclopedia
cuticles focus can factual information to cover the thing or
concept for which the article name stands.

• Magazines
Magazines are publications usually periodical publications,
that are printed or electronically published. (the concine versions
are called cenline magazines) they are generally financed by
advertising, by a purchase price, by prepared subscriptions, or a
combination of the three. At its roots the word “Magazine” refers
to a collection or storage location. It the case of written
publication it is a collection of written articles.
• Journal
Journal have several related meanings.
• A daily record of events or business, a private journal is
usually referred to as a diary.
• A news paper or other periodical in the literal séance of
one published each day
• Many publication issued at stated intervals, such as
academic journal, or the record of the transactions of a
society, are often called journals.
• The word journalist, for one wholes business is writing for
the public press and now a days also other media has been
in use since the end of the 17th centaury.

• News letters
New letter is a regularly distributed publication that is
generally about can main topic of interest to its subscribers. New
papers and letters are type of newsletter. For example New
letters are distributed at schools to information parents about
things that happen in that school. New letters are published by
clubs, churches, societies, associations and business especially
companies to proved information of interest to members,
customers, or employees. A News letter may be considered great
literature. Newsletters delivered electronically via email have
gained raped acceptance for the same reasons emails in general
has gained popularity over printed correspondence.

• Handbook
A single volume reference book of compact size that
provided concise factual information on a specific subject,
organized systematically for quick and easy access. Statistical
information is often published in handbook form. Some
handbooks are published service.
• Yearbook
An annual documentary, historical, or memorial
compendium of facts, photographs, statistics, etc about the
events of the preceding year, often limited to a specific country,
institution, discipline or subject. Optional yearbooks are offered
by some publishers of general encyclopedias. Most libraries place
yearbooks can continuation order and shelve them in the
reference collection. Yearbooks of historical significance may be
stored in archives or special collections.

CONCLUSION
Reference Materials are very effective aids to learning
students must be given training in the use of reference book. The
activity of the reference materials depends can the extent it is
used, the frequency of its case and the guidance provided to
pupils. Bibliography, Dictionary, Directory, Encyclopedia,
Handbook, Yearbook, Newsletter, Magazine, Journals are under
the category of reference materials and it have many advantages.
