FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTS

Measures student progress throughout the instructional process and helps teachers adapt instruction to fit the learning needs of all students.

Limitations


The feedback comes too late and is far removed from the creation of the work and the decisions students made to be useful.

Despite teachers’ herculean efforts to mark and return homework or tests, the feedback does little to help children improve


SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT• Score on a formal test with no other feedback

• Perhaps useful for some purposes, little use for students

• Turns to be an ego booster, more often an ego

deflator.
