Disputes

• The lists of disputes in the world is long and ever-changing• But to name a few which are becoming worrisome, the first

one that makes the list is

Jammu and Kashmir

The former princely state of India and Pakistan (once part of the British

Empire, now part of India, Pakistan, and China) has been disputed since

the British relinquished control of the subcontinent in the 1940s.

A heavily militarized, 724 km Line of Control has long pitted Indian and

Pakistani forces against each other in this

contested Himalayan region.

• The lists of disputes in the world is long and ever-changing• But to name a few which are becoming worrisome, the first

one that makes the list is

East China SeaA chain of remote, energy-rich islands known as the

Senkaku Islands in East China Sea which are the subject of a

territorial dispute between the two powers, China and

Japan. It has been escalating in recent years.

Japan’s government laid claim to the islands in 1895 because

they were vacant. Up until World War II, they remained under U.S.A’s control. China

argues that these islands were already under their

control long before Japan had laid claim to them

Geographical Importance

• God has bestowed us with a land which is in the most geographically important place

• It is the gateway for land locked countries in central Asia to trade goods. Due to unavailability of sea, these countries natural trade route is through Pakistan’s coast

• This coastline is also the reason why china has agreed to sign the CPEC with us.

Page 33: Asia and Pakistan, a brief inroduction

CPEC

• Stands for ‘Pak-China Economic Corridor’. • This project is about using pakistan’s Gawadar port for

trade purposes by China. For this china will built a system of roads in Pakistan in order to shift goods from gawadar sea port to China.

• This will benefit both countries; china will get a shorter path for sea trade compared to the previous route it took and Pakistan will benefit from the economics corridors set by china along the road system as well as getting passage fair.
