3. Painting in the style of the Masters
There are two classic styles associated with the Masters, sfumato and chiaroscuro. Find out what the difference is and use them in your paintings.
4. Sfumato
refers to the subtle use of tone used to obscure sharp edges and to create a synergy between lights and shadows in painting.
Leonardo da Vincis Mona Lisa is probably the best known example of sfumato.
5. Chiaroscuro
literally, light-dark a technique used to create dramatic contrasts. The focus of the painting is illuminated, as if in spotlight, while the surrounding area is dark and somber
Rembrandt was the master of chiaroscuro as seen in St. Peter in Prison.
