Answer to genetic make-up in autism

Is genetics playing with autism related defects in the brain, or is it another disorder with a cause that no one has been able to find.

Autism or the more complicated Autism Spectrum Disorder, is a complex neurological

combination of weird and absurd sounding symptom changes that sets apart a normal

child from an autistic soul. Restricted behaviour, impaired verbal and non-verbal

communication and least interested social interaction may seem absurd at the

beginning, but is a way of life autism treats its patients. The entire working of the brain

is hampered, and the brain ceases to function when multiple instructions are given.

Environmental and genetics are the main causes, scientist say, though how much

percentile, is unknown.

Autism Spectrum Disorder ,is characteristic of several symptoms ranging from the

Fragile X syndrome, congenital rubella syndrome, tuberous sclerosis, and is as dreadful

and difficulty to deal with as is with autism.

The study of genetics and autism gives forward various twists to the study.

1. Not a single gene is responsible, nor is the change in DNA of parent and child a sole reason. There could be 10 or 20 gene changes which have all influenced the state of the child.

2. Out of the 23 chromosomes, scientists have isolated 20 that could possibly be related to cause autism.

3. General protocols of comparing the DNA of a variety of people with autism with their relatives is not helping. Children with autism and their parents might have the same sets of genes, but it becomes difficult to take back this gene structure to their forefathers for comparison sake.

4. Also quite interesting and relieving is to know that, a first autistic child doesn’t mean a higher chances of a second autistic baby.

The probable breakthrough would be in searching for the right genes for autism change, and exploring the causes from that clue. And with the identification of genes, comes a sure shot treatment formula. The world would be a happier place then. Mechanisms to stop the gene change or mutant could be the next breakthrough, and the person with a cure for autism would attract the world’s next Nobel Prize.

And while the scientists are out discovering newer treatment options, the basic and

most successful options available are the motivational exercises and behavioural

sessions. Normal kids learn by copying their parents, autism robs the child of the most

basic instinct, and they are left grappling in their own world. Certain exercises like

swimming is know the calm the mind. Picture drawing and communicating through

actions and figures works best in autistic schools. Along with the kid, the parents are

encouraged to attend and learn from the gurus. To learn, discipline and educate the

child, various skills need to be made aware of.

An autistic child may be shunned by the society, but must not by the parents. After all

every child is unique and as may the case be, these special children are blessed with a

special gift, which every parent must unravel.
