Joel Harvey’s Analysed Work

I felt that throughout the video the camera use was steady. There was appropriate editing with

sound where required especially when the characters were being introduced. Title was shown appropriately. To improve I think they could have tried more varied shot transitions and other effects which would be appropriate

for the scene. It was a bit limited.

Luke Akers Analysed Work

I felt that there was a variety of shot transitions, it enhanced the scene and

made it more interesting to watch. Titles were used appropriately. There was good use of mise en scene, the

costume was thought out well for the characters and the lighting and setting

worked. To improve on they could have added more sound effects to enhance

the scene.

James Powell’s Analysed Work

I particularly enjoyed watching this video. The Mise En Scene was well thought out. The setting/location was nicely chosen, and the lighting worked well with the setting. Particularly the first half had interesting camera movements, e.g. tracking out. The titles were shown at appropriate times. To improve on they could have focused less on the action scene and could have worked more on keeping the camera in focus and played with the effects they could have created.

Analysing other students’ work has helped me to plan my own opening. Firstly I was able to see what worked and what didn’t. I saw that it was more effective when you didn’t focus necessarily on the acting in the scene but more of the camera movement and how to use sound and other effects to enhance the scene. Secondly I felt the mise en scene was a big factor needed to create a good opening because if you selected it appropriately

then it makes the video look more professional because it was well thought out. In addition I found that using

editing where appropriate was very effective to the audience and looks really professional if used correctly at the right times. Finally I found that using a variety of shot types/movements with a steady shot can make or break your opening. If the movements aren’t steady then it can

look shaky and not professional at all.
