ALTERATIONS WE’VE MADE

We decided against having a script until the very end of the opening because we wanted to keep the mysterious effect so we kept it quiet until the end where we did a voice over of the only three lines in the opening of the movie.

We also changed what the little girl was wearing because we wanted to make her seem more like an ordinary child so it would scare the audience more because something like this could happen to anybody. So in the end she wore blue jeans, black dolly shoes with white socks, a white knitted cardigan (Still in keeping with the theme of white meaning innocence) and a navy blue coat. We gave her the coat because it was really cold when we went to film so we incorporated it into our filming. It was fairly easy to do so because it was too big for her so we agreed that maybe the coat belonged to her mother, so she started wearing it when her mother was killed.

We were planning on having the little girl sing/hum the Itsy Bitsie spider song at the very beginning as she made her way to her mother’s grave but we decided against this because like with the dialogue, we wanted to just keep it quiet so we could keep the mysterious effect the silence created – The silence also made it seem as though the child was mourning because her body language helped make it seem that way. Her head was down and her movements were slow.

We ended up not using a flower for the little girl to give to her mother because we were unable to get one so we left that part out.

We decided that the flashbacks should be in red as oppose to black and white or blue which was the original idea to show that it’s in the past. We decided this because it would make the audience aware that the little girl is in danger and by the end of the opening they would make a conclusion as to whether they think she’s dead or not.
