8

What is the measure of an exterior angle in a polygon (if all the

angles are equal)?

• 360 / number of sides.

Page 9: Advanced Accountancy 29 Sept

9

If a polygon has 12 sides, what will be its angles, if each angle is

equal?

• Steps:

1. Each exterior angle = 360/12 = 30

2. Interior angle : 180 – exterior angle

3. = 180 -30 = 150

4. Thus each angle is of 150 degrees. Answer.

15

What is a chord?

• Any line passing through a circle is called a chord.

Page 16: Advanced Accountancy 29 Sept

16

In a circle of radius 10 cm, a chord is drawn 6 cm from the centre. If a chord half the length of the original chord were drawn, its distance in

centimetres from the centre’ wouldbe

Page 17: Advanced Accountancy 29 Sept

17

Solution…

• 10^2 – 6^2 = 100 – 36• =64 • Square root of 64 is 8.• 10^2 – 4^2 = 100-16• =84• Squre root of 84• =9.16• Thus this chord is 9.16

CM away from centre. Answer.

The sides of a quadrilateral, are extended to make the angles as

shown below; what is X?

• The sum of all the exterior angles is 360 degrees.

• =75+115+90+X = 360• 280 + X = 360• X = 360-280 = 80

answer.

19

If the angles of a triangle are in the ratio 5 : 3 : 2, then the

triangle could be

• Sum of all the angles is 180

• Thus one angle is 5 / (5+3+2) *180 = 90

• Second angle is : 3/(5+3+2) * 180 = 54

• 3rd angle is : 2 / (5+3+2) *180 = 36

• Thus this is a right angle triangle.

Solution ….

• In any case it will form a quadrilateral. It shape may be similar to that of a trapezium.

A photograph measures 10 cm by 6 cm. It is to be enlarged so that the longer dimension becomes 15

cm. The length of the enlarged shorter dimension will be

• When we enlarge the photo, we increase length and breadth both in same proportion (otherwise the photo quality will be affected).

• Thus breadth will be increased by 15/10 *6 = 9 answer.

What is the distance between two points A (4,5) and B(7,9)?

• Here in A , 4 is X1 and 5 is Y1• In B 7 is X2 and 9 is Y2.• The formula for calculating the distance : • Sqrt[( X2 - X1)^2 +(Y2-Y1)^2]• =sqrt[ (7-4)^2 + (9-5)^2]• =sqrt[ 9 + 16]• =sqrt [25] = 5 • Thus distance between the two points is 5.

25

What is the distance between two points A (-3,-2) and B(3,-5)?

• Here in A , -3 is X1 and -2 is Y1• In B 3 is X2 and -5 is Y2.• The formula for calculating the distance : • Sqrt[( X2 - X1)^2 +(Y2-Y1)^2]• =sqrt[ (3-(-3))^2 + (-5-(-2))^2]• =sqrt[ 36 + 9]• =sqrt [45] = 6.5 (approx.) • Thus distance between the two points is 6.5.

26

Find angle A if angle B is 30 degree?

• As we can see that the chords making angle A and B have same origins & direction. In such cases the measures of the two angles are always equal – they may be on any point on the circumference. Thus angle B = 30 degree.

What is the slope of the line passing through A (3,5) and B

(7,9)?• Here in A we have 3 as X1 and 5 as Y1

• In point B we have 7 as X 2 and 9 as Y2.

• The formula for slope calculation is :

• ( (Y2 – Y1) / (X 2 – X1)

• = (9-5) / (7-3)

• =4/4

• =1 answer.

If there is a pentagon, how many diagonals can it have?

• As you can see that from each point, you can make two diagonals in pentagon.

• The formula for calculating the number of diagonals is : (n X (n-1) /2) - n

• N = number of sides • =(5 *4) / 2 - 5• =10 -5 = 5

29

If there is a hexagon, how many diagonals can it have?

• As we can see hexagon has 6 angles.

• The formula for calculating the number of diagonals is : (n X (n-1) /2) - n

• N = number of sides • =(6 *5) / 2 - 6• =15 -6 = 9 ans.

30

What will be one angle of a regular hexagon?

• Divide 360 by 6 (because there are 6 lines).

• Thus we get 60. this is the measurement of one external angle.

• Thus internal angle is : 180 – 60 = 120 degree.

• Thus we can take any internal angle, it will be 120 degree and sum of all the angles will be 120 * 6 = 720 answer.
