Unit 4: Issues in our fast changing world2011

This is a one hour paper on the morning of Friday June 24th 2011

The total marks available for this paper is 50

The paper will be on one issue only, that of poverty and food supply: health and nutrition around the world, contrasting the poorest people with the wealthiest and considering solutions to this global problem.

You will be given a copy of the resource book to read, annotate and keep but you can not bring this one to the exam. There are no spares, do not lose it.

A fresh copy of the resource book in full colour will be available for the exam.

In the exam, nearly all the questions will be linked directly to the sources. You will be expected, however, to show some wider knowledge about the issue from your own research.

There will most likely be a longer, decision making question at the end in which you need to give different options and justify your own opinion.

First classroom based tasks;

1. Look through the resource booklet and familiarise yourself with it. Put your name on it. Keep it SAFE.

2. Create a glossary for this exam. Make a list of all the key terms that feature in the resource booklet, begin to add definitions for those you know. E.g. calorie intake, landlessness, MEDC’s. (use a blank page at the back)

3. Consider what questions the exam board are likely to ask you about i) the resources and ii) the big issue of poverty and food. Make a list of 3 questions about each- note that one will be a decision making question, what might that be?

4. We will share these questions and on rough paper you will have a go at a couple to get you thinking about the skills you will need.
