Main Idea Why it Matters now

Economics World War 1 spread to several continents and required the full resources of many governments.

The war porpelled the United States to a new position of international power, which it holds today.

WAR AFFECTS THE WORLD

WW1 had started dragging many countries into war like Australia and Japan who joined the allies. Turkey and Bulgaria joined the Central Powers. War had turned into a slaughter and there were no sings of it ending.

THE GALLIPOLI CAMPAIGN

The Gallipoli campaign was made to help Russia establish a supply line. It took place at Dardanelles which is in the ottoman empire. The allies were involved in this campaign and thought they could take out Constantinople and defeat the Turks but in the end Gallipoli turned into a bloody stalemate and the allies gave up.

USA joins the fight

Later on 1917 USA joined WW1 for 3 main reasons:1. The Germans established unrestricted submarine

warfare and sake the “Lusitania” ship which had American passengers in it.

2. Germany sank 3 US ships3. USA intercepted the Zimmerman telegram which

was supposed to be for Mexico and invited them to join the war.

USA tipped the balance of War

USA had 2 million of fresh soldiers

GOVERNMENTS WAGED TOTAL WAR

The governments of countries that were involved in war like Britain, Germany, Austria, Russia, and France started total war were which meant that they devoted all their resources to war.

This soon lead to rationing because goods started to be in short supply and people could only buy a short amount of resources because they were being used for war effort.

The government of the countries involved at war also started using propaganda which was one-sided information that was used to cheer spirts and keep moral up.

WOMEN AND THE WAR

Countries started needing more men to join the army so women had to replace them at factories, offices, shops, paved the streets, ran hospitals, built tanks and munitions, and worked as nurses at war.

RUSSIA WITHDRAWS

Russia withdrew from the war because they had a revolution.

THE CENTRAL POWERS COLLAPSE

After Russia withdrew from the war.The Germans confronted 2 million US

soldiers and lost.German soldiers mutinied The Allies won the war and an Armistice was

signed.On November 11 of 1918 WW1 came to an

end

THE LEGACY OF WAR

War ended leaving behind great tragedy for many countries. 8.5 million soldiers died 21 million of soldiers were wounded There was a devastating economic impact for Europe

after the war War destroyed farmland, villages and homes

WITH THIS ACTIVITY WE REVIEWED THE SECTION OF “A GLOBAL CONFLICT” AND LEARNED HOW DEVASTATING WAR WAS.

WE LEARNED HOW COUNTRIES GOT DRAGGED INTO WAR AND HOW THEY

TIPPED THE BALANCE OF IT,ALSO HOW GOVERNMENTS PUTTED ALL THEIR

RESOURCES INTO WAR TO TRY TO WIN AND WHICH COUNTRIES WON WW1. WE

ALSO LEARNED HOW HORRIBLE WAR WAS AND THE DEVASTATION AND DESPAIR WAR
