VBMSL ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
oStudents must: pass 5 classes from the first semester
(first and second nine weeks) have a 2.0 GPA for the first semester
oWaivers: are only available for the 2.0 GPA
requirement not for the pass 5 classes requirement
may be used one time during middle school years
VBMSL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
oDate of Birth: a student cannot reach his/her 15th
birthday on or before August 1st of the current school year
o6 Semester Rule: students are only eligible for 6 consecutive semesters, with the 1st semester beginning when the child enters the 6th grade
INSURANCE VBCPS offers a supplemental insurance to your
current provider. Notify coach immediately if athlete is being seen by a
doctor or emergency room due to accident during practice or game.
Claim forms may be issued by the SAC. Treatment for any injury must be received and the
claim form filed within 90 days of the date of the injury.
Plan provides 70% of Usual & Customary coverage. $25,000 maximum benefit. The deductible is $100 per injury. There is a $500 limit on physical therapy claims per
injury.

SPORTSMANSHIPThe following are required of all PARENTS/SPECTATORS:
1. Realize you represent Plaza, so encourage through positive behavior.
2. Being a good sport is more important than victory.3. Recognize and show appreciation for an outstanding
play by both teams.4. Be a “team fan” as well as a “my kid” fan.5. Remember that a ticket to a school event is a privilege
to observe the contest.6. Treat visiting teams and officials as guests.7. Be modest in victory and gracious in defeat.8. Respect the judgment and integrity of officials,
realizing that their decisions are based upon game conditions.
9. Bottom line… be a positive role model
ATHLETE/PARENT/COACH

It is NEVER ok to approach a coach after practice or competition to discuss any of the above. Please refrain and call the next day.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
DISCIPLINE:O 1st ISS: team member will not participate the day ISS is
served and may not start the next competition.O 2nd ISS: team member will be removed from the team.O OSS: team member will be removed from the team.
GAMES:O Participants must be in school a minimum of 3 hours in
order to participate in practice or a game.O We will provide transportation to and from away
games.O Only a parent/guardian may pick up a team member
after away games.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION Practices are closed to parents. Please be available by phone
while your child is practicing or competing. After practice, all team members walk to bus loop to get on the
activity bus or get picked up by their parent. CANCELLATIONS OF GAMES/PRACTICES:
• Made after 2:00 pm. Please refrain from calling after the first rain drop/snow flake.
• There are few dates for make ups, so if at all possible we will play.
• Be sure coaches have your email address. UNIFORMS:
• Responsibility of team members as soon as they take possession.• Please help ensure we receive them back in the same condition
they were issued.• They may only be worn for Plaza sponsored events.

PHYSICIAN VISITO If the student-athlete goes to a physician
(urgent care, emergency room, etc.) due to injury or illness, a note from the physician must be given to Mrs. Wydra and the school nurse. The physician's note must include a diagnosis
and participation status. The student-athlete will not be able to
participate until a note is provided.
O If necessary, the parent will be contacted and a plan of action will be discussed.
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHILD IS INJURED AT
PRACTICE/GAME? Student-athlete must report any injury/illness to the
coach and athletic trainer, as soon as possible, regardless of where the injury occurred.
Athletic Trainer will monitor the student’s injury and notify the parent/guardian and school nurse as necessary.
If student-athlete is referred to physician, or goes on their own, a note regarding diagnosis and participation status must be provided.
The Athletic Trainer, in conjunction with the coach, will help the student-athlete return to play as quickly and safely as possible.
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHILD SUFFERS A CONCUSSION AT
PRACTICE/GAME?
All athletes will take the ImPACT test for a baseline. With a suspected concussion:
The athlete will not return to play that day and the Athletic Trainer will conduct an initial evaluation.
Parent/guardian will be contacted with information and directions for care.
If a student-athlete is diagnosed of sustaining a concussion, regardless of when and where the initial incident happened, the Concussion Policy will be followed, as mandated by the Virginia General Assembly. This includes a follow-up with a physician trained in concussion management.
Student-athlete must return physician note to Mrs. Wydra and the school nurse after each visit.
CONCUSSION INFORMATION CONTINUED
The student-athlete must provide clearance documentation from a qualified physician to begin the Return to Play progression. The Return To Play progression must be completed before being able to continue with current season or play a sport in the future within the VBCPS system.
Athlete will take the ImPACT test for post-injury result, upon request by physician. It will be compared to baseline results.
The final clearance is given by the Athletic Trainer.
GRADUAL RETURN TO PLAY
The Return to Play progression will not begin with the Athletic Trainer until the athlete is completely symptom free.
Each stage of the Concussion Graduated Return to Play is a minimum 24 hour period.
