Program Locations

Residents at each location will share the same basic program components. However, experiences will vary

according to their professional skills and unique ministry contexts.

Eastern Africa

In Eastern Africa, residents have opportunities to exercise skills in communications (ie: Marketing, Public Relations, Graphic Design, and Professional Writing), media, and informational technology.

Residents fully engage in the life of the congregation, learn the church’s ministry philosophy and methods, and understand how to fully integrate their professional skills and outcome-based ministry into local church work in an international context.

Southern Africa

Residents serve with Reaching a Generation at its bases in Southern Africa.Residents assist in research, program follow-up, and community-wide outreach initiatives in accordance with their skillset. Activities include visiting schools and organizations that have received resources and assisting in the training and implementation of the programs or teaching and guiding communities on how to start and maintain a Foundations for Farming garden.

Cultivate is an outcome-based initiative – everything we do is to accomplish four primary goals.

Work Skillfully Residents seek a better understanding of the Gospel and its implications for all areas of life. They learn how to put acquired and realized skills to use in a way that furthers His Kingdom. They seek to refine their understanding of their calling, vocation and purpose with practical and meaningful experience.

Professional Experience and ApplicationResidents utilize practical and professional to support the church and advance the Gospel.

Project Development and PortfolioResidents develop and implement projects in the field. At the end of a residency, individuals will have developed a portfolio of projects that make them more competitive in professionally and more kingdom-minded in their skillset utilization. What We Do

Think Missionally Residents receive missiological and cross-cultural training in conjunction with a vision for the future of missions in the 21st century. They serve a ministry in a specialized role where they are most needed.

Training in Missiology and Worldview DevelopmentResidents are trained in what missions looks like in the 21st century in accordance with global trends. They will learn to emphasize the importance of skills-based service to fill the needs of global ministries.

Ministry Placement Based on skillsResidents will receive ministry placement based on realized and learned skills that can fulfill a need within a global ministry. Such skills become an outlet by which they can further the Gospel.

Grow Spiritually Residents engage in Scripture, Christian community, and spiritual disciplines in pursuit of the Spirit-led life. Resident s seek to grow in their faith by formulating a personalized growth plan that looks introspectively at the areas they endeavor and anticipate to see development in through the residency experience.

Personalized Growth PlanA resident has an opportunity to look inwardly and create a personalized growth plan of the areas they endeavor and anticipate to see development through the residency experience.

Regular Meetings Residents begin and end the program at OneHope’s international office, engaging in practical training, and growing in relationship with OneHope staff. Through the course of the residency – both in and out of the country – they will remain in contact with Cultivate staff for accountability and encouragement.

Impact Globally By 2050, 67% of the world’s 2.5 billion Christians will live in Africa, South America or Asia. With this in mind, resident connect with theologically, nationally, and culturally diverse Christians to better understand global ministry. They become involved with the global church through a 6-month cross-cultural experience where they will build deep relationships with OneHope and its global partners.Why It Matters

Cross-cultural experience and immersionEach residency location presents a cross-cultural experience, beginning with understanding one’s own culture, the culture of the other, and the ways in which the two can intersect for meaningful relationships and impactful ministry.

Engagement with an International Community Residents will become immersed in an international community of believers who are living and serving together for kingdom growth. As a resident lives and engages with the local community, they will serve with a local church partner and actively invest in the life of that community.

Finances

The program fee for the Residency program is $3,050.

Included in the program fee is local housing, travel expenses to and from the residency location, as well as local transportation.

Residents will be required to provide an initial deposit of $1500 before June 30th, with the remaining amount is due at a later date.

$1,000 of the program fee composes an “Emergency Fund”, and will be returned to the resident upon completion of the program.

In addition, residents are paid $125 weekly stipend to cover daily living expenses, including (but not limited to) food, cell phone, clothing, and individual events.

The stipend is typically sufficient for these needs; however, some interns may need to budget personal funds to cover additional expenses.

Travel

Residents are responsible for the following: Travel to Fort Lauderdale for Orientation Week Travel from Fort Lauderdale to home after Debrief.

Travel to and from the internship location is covered in the program fee

College Credit

Many former interns have received college credit for their internship experience.

Residents are responsible for providing the Cultivate team with paperwork from their school – we’ll complete what is needed!

FAQ

Can I come late? Orientation Week is foundational for a great residency experience – we don’t allow residents to miss it. What exactly will I be doing? The program components – Work, Think, Grow, and Impact - provide a broad outline of the residency experience. Residents will have opportunities to design and participate in projects that reflect their skillset and the local ministry’s needs throughout the program. Is this “all expenses paid”? No. In addition to the program fee, you are responsible for travel to and from OneHope’s international office in Fort Lauderdale as well as your daily living expenses. The stipend may or may not be enough for these, depending upon your spending choices.

FAQ

Is this associated with a denomination?OneHope is an evangelical, non-denominational non-profit that serves thousands of churches globally. Interns come from a variety of traditions. Is this a missions trip? No. Residents are hired to work in professional ministry settings. Your growth is an important priority; however, this is a job with corresponding expectations. What’s the relationship between OneHope and Cultivate? Cultivate is a OneHope initiative – all Cultivate staff are OneHope employees, and Cultivate exists to further OneHope’s mission.
