MESSAGE FROM LOCAL PRESIDENT
EASTERNGATEWAY
Special Greengs from the desk of 2016 Local President
It is our responsibility as young people to find solutions
to the challenges we are facing in our communities. As
JCIs the year 2015 was special as we were celebrating
100 years of active citizenship.2016 marks the beginning
of another century of sustainable impact. Guided by the
Local Organization’s Plan of Action in this first half year
we have made quite some solid achievements thanks to
teamwork. We have set the year as a critical juncture for
overcoming our intense areas we are lagging behind like
visibility, membership and finances. If we achieve these
we can be able to leap onto the path of sustainable growth
leading to a great success. To create new value and continue
to grow as an organization, we will implement the strategic
measures guided by our LO vision statement “ Visibility
through Action and Commitment”
Other than exposing members to trainings and motivational
presentations one of our priorities is to have all members
to participate in different tasks to improve confidence and
gain invaluable hands on experience which will help and
guide them in years ahead. Having ACF in mind we need to
continue pushing and pursuing our projects towards the
growth track. We must take all possible measures to
thoroughly analyze projects that are not proceeding as
planned and figure out the causes so that we can be able
to rectify them. As for projects which are proceeding as
planned we need to make strategic movements for further
growth by thoroughly thinking of ways to improve them.
Here is another one thing I would like you all to take to
heart; that is open communication . In the world today, it
seems that people are not willing to accept ideas or values
that differ from their own, and tolerance is disappearing.
I feel that free, vigorous and open communication is
especially important at such a time. Free communication
feeds the vitality of the organization, and leads to improved
productivity. It has been scientifically proven that an
organization with active communication has vitality and
performs well. I call on all members to make the effort to
communicate openly everyday, not only within the
organization, but also with our partners and all other
relevant authorities.
Finally, I am encouraging everyone of you to
make an effort to be better than where you
are today. Lets continue this year being
upbeat, and enjoying serving as we share
this principle, “Service to humanity is the
best work of life”. In closing, l would like to
extend my wishes for health and success to
all of you and your families.
Thank You
2016 JCI Mutare Local President

Allow me to raise my glass, to acknowledge your tireless
efforts and contributions and to show my appreciation.
Confronted with challenges at the start of our journey,
you never withdrew, but displayed wisdom and courage.
Forging ahead along this winding path, you always exemplify
persistence and perseverance through action. Faced with
imperfectness during challenges we are facing, you show
growth in understanding and comittment. Mindful of the
organisation’s role in global impact, our main task is striving
consisitently towards professionalism and enhancing the
learning and innovation spirit

Donating Blood is important5 Reasons Why
By Tatenda Kangwende
Approximately every three seconds somebodysomewhere is in need of blood so as to save their life. This statistic should seal the argumentfor donating blood, but just to make sure, here are other five reasons why donatingblood is always a great thing to do:
1)Saved Lives: In the United states alone, nearly 5 million lives a year are saved thanksto donated blood
2)Feel Good: Face it everyone wants to feelgood; to feel that they have accomplishedsomething. Whenever someone feels good, the brain is awash with a chemical called dopamine, a chemical that activates the body’sfeeling of reward and pleasure. If you want to feel good more of the time, then all you need is to exert yourself toward something worthwhile and to do good “ A desire accompli--shed is sweet to the soul....” and one way of doing this is regularly donate blood.
3 Incentives and rewards:In some small yetmeaningful ways, the NBSZ goes out of theirway to recognize those individuals who do lend a dependable and determined hand in savingthe lives of others. These tokens given areof non-monetary value but have a sentimentalvalue to blood donors
4) Connection and community: The most conducive environments for fostering strongrelationships among people are in placesof sincere service and selflessness. Consistentlydonating blood and assuming active member--ship of such entities provides the salubriousenvironment for strong solid relationship-building to take place
5)Give the perfect gift: Blood is one if not possibly-just about the perfect gift which one can render that can perfectly transcend alldivisions which plague humanity. Think of itwhen, one is fighting for dear life, and transfusedblood arrives, no one would question where theblood came from, race, political persuasion will notmatter“HE (the creator) has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on the face of the earth...”So what humanity has in common is blood and this should be a reminder that love is the only way thathumanity will ever know unity and peace, for love neverfails. Giving blood hearkens to this principles.

JCI Mutare held a Time Management Presentation on Wednesday 22 June 2016 at Mutare Club.
The very inspirational Mr Mukarati, an HR Manager at Manica Board and Doors was the guest speaker. He
imparted to the members the definition ,importance, types, techniques and quotes of Time Management.
Of the later, the most resounding one he quoted was by Peter Drucker: “Until we can manage time, we can’t
manage nothing else” . This presentation came at the most opportune time as it reminded the members of the
importance of effective time management. They hugely appreciated Mr Mukarati`s presentation and collectively
expressed commitment to apply it in their respective day-to-day livelihoods.

CLEAN UP CAMPAIGN
The 2nd of April 2016 the residents woke up to see a bunch of young people with brooms at Mudzviti Bus Terminus.JCI Members, partners from EnvironmentManagement Agency (EMA), National Blood TransfusionServices Pledge 25, Red Cross Youth and members of the public took part in the clean up campaign from Mudzviti to the Edgars Bus Terminus. The clean up was code named“Marara muBin” was aimed at sensitizing the communityon the importance of disposing litter at the designated points or bins. The Mutare residents from the areas that were cleaned hailed the initiative but encouraged respo--nsible authorities to secure bins and frequent refuse collection. In some sections of the city, residents are resorting to improvising bins as the responsible authorityhas failed. The residents complained that there are no binsin designated points and people end up throwing littereverywhere. The Junior chamber International Mutare Local organisation launched the clean up campaign after members stirred by state of the city in terms of litter and their role of active citizens. Active citizens believe that communitiesthey live in are their responsibilities and should work handin glove with responsible authorities and partners to create a clean environment for all.Members of the public encouraged JCI ,City fathers andpartners to source bins or 200 litre metal drums to use asbins in order to keep our city clean. JCI Mutare Local President Luckmore Mazoza thanked all members who participated in the clean up and promised to work together with partners to secure bins.

World President VisitZimbabwe ‘s beauty could not be resisted as the JCI world president could not return home without passing by after the Africa and Middle East Conference (AMEC). All JCI Zimbabwe Local organizations gathered at the Meikles Hotel to give a warm welcome and to fellowship with the world president. The 2017 World President Paschal Dike, a Nigerian active citizen opened his speech by saying “JCI is a transformational organization. It makes a good boy a better boy, a better boy a best boy and a best boy into an excellent boy”. He supported his claim by telling the audience how JCI turned a timid shy village boy he was, into a transformational, influential 21st century global active citizen, JCI World President, a role model of many, a responsible father etc. Paschal narrated how he climbed the JCI ladder from the day he joined in 1996, his personal and organisation achievements in the 18 years he has been in JCI leadership. His theme was you should not allow your circumstances to define your future. As the audience was made up of members and aspiring members. The president took time to share how the organisation came into existence. He emphasised on the importance of young peoples participation in local communities. JCI was started by Henry Geissenbier in 1915 in the US when he transformed a dancing club into a progressive civic association which cleaned cities and was involved inadvocacy work. As the 2016 JCI theme “Just Act”, he encouraged all active citizens to make positive changes in their local communities by asking why not, instead of why, why, why. He concluded by encouraging members to take part in the Peace is Possible campaign. As a tonne of maize is made up of indivudual grains, world peace is possible if all people commit to peace, Peace begins with Individuals. As iron sharpens iron the event was just a sharpening event as JCI senators and Past National Presidents took time to share their inspiring and motivating experiences.
