HCFCs

HCFCs (hydrochlorofluorocarbons) are the second generation of fluorine based gases, the original replacements for CFCs. These products, which include R22, R123, R401A, R401B, R402A, R402B, R408A, and R409A, are categorised as having medium ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential) and medium to high GWP (Global Warming Potential). Consequently, they offer a slightly more environmentally friendly alternative to CFCs. They also often provide a quick and simple "retrofit" of existing CFC equipment.

As HCFCs contribute both to ozone depletion and global warming, the use of HCFCs is being phased out as part of global legislation, such as the Montreal Protocol. Some countries and regions are operating an accelerated phase out. In the EU, for example, the use of virgin HCFCs was phased out in January 2010. Reclaimed or recycled HCFCs, however, may be used until January 2015.

HFCs (hydrofluorocarbons) are the third generation of fluorine-based gases.

These products are categorised as having zero ODP (Ozone Depleting Potential) and medium to high GWP (Global Warming Potential) and so offer a more environmentally friendly alternative to CFCs and HCFCs. HFCs are used in a wide range of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment specifically designed for them, and as "drop in" retrofit gases for older CFC or HCFC equipment. HFCs are also used in selective propellant and foam blowing applications.

A growing focus on the environmental impact of refrigerants is fuelling demand for refrigeration solutions that can provide satisfactory cooling performance with a lower impact on global warming. This is propelling environmentally friendly refrigeration solutions to the top of the corporate sustainability agenda. In addition, local legislation is increasingly targeting refrigerant gases with high GWP.

HFC R134a

R134a is an extremely common refrigerant used in a wide range of refrigeration and air conditioning applications, including medium and high temperature refrigeration (both domestic and commercial), residential & light air conditioning, automotive air conditioning and industrial applications such as centrifugal chillers. It is also a common component in many HFC refrigerant blends and is used in some propellant applications.

Industrial/Commercial Centrifuge (xxxx)

Industrial/Commercial DX Chillers

Industrial/Commercial Centrifuge Centrifuges use accelerated centrifugal force to

effectively separate particles from solutions according to their size, shape, density and

viscosity. The uses and applications of centrifuges permeate industrial, commercial and

even residential settings. From medicines and fuel to groceries and laundry, centrifuge use is

dynamic and diverse.

HFC R404A

R404A is an HFC blend that is widely used in low and medium temperature refrigeration applications, such as those used in commercial refrigeration. Whilst it has become the widely accepted alternative to CFC R502, R404A is coming under greater scrutiny due to its high Global Warming Potential, leading to an increased focus on lower GWP alternatives such as R407A, R407F and R442A.

HFC R507A

R507A is an HFC blend designed to be a replacement for R502 in low and medium temperature refrigeration applications. It is similar in characteristics to R404A however, being an azeotropic blend, R507A does not suffer from glide or fractionation making it suitable for additional applications such as centrifugal compressors

HFC R422D (ISCEON MO29)

R422D, also known as ISCEON® MO29, is an HFC blend designed to be a simple "drop-in" retrofit replacement for R22 in many refrigeration and air conditioning applications, including low and medium temperature direct expansion (DX) refrigeration applications, commercial supermarket systems, stationary DX air conditioning applications and DX water chillers. R422D contains a small amount of hydrocarbon to help ensure oil return in systems containing MO or AB lubricants.
