THAI MASSAGE TECHNIQUES WORKSHOP (PRONE & SIDE-LYING)

Thai Massage is an ancient form of bodywork that is assumed to have developed in India and was later brought to Thailand. It is estimated to be about 2500 years old. It has gained in popularity in the US over the last decade and is currently offered at many spas as a menu item.

This class is geared toward the therapist that is already familiar with Thai Massage and preferably has taken an introductory class, although all are welcome to attend. The focus of the weekend will be on the side-lying and prone positions with emphasis on working the sen lines as well as Thai stretches. By the end of the weekend, the therapist will be able to give a 50-minute massage in side-lying and prone position. Proper body mechanics while working on the mat will be encouraged throughout the course.

CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY WORKSHOP August 1-2, 2015


Craniosacral Bodywork Therapy is a gentle, non-evasive touch-therapy assisting the body's natural healing mechanisms by restoring intrinsic balance. Precise methodologies successfully locate imbalances, reestablishing homeostasis. This unique work greatly benefits brain and spinal cord dysfunction, as well as relieving headaches, migraines, depression, insomnia, TMJ, dizziness, and chronic back pain.

This course imparts confidence to sensory skills for palpation and evaluation of craniosacral rhythm. It also educates participants in releasing fascial, sutural, and membranous restrictions of the craniosacral system. Completion of our Craniosacral Bodywork Therapy class prepares the student to evaluate the craniosacral system and include aspects of this modality into your bodywork session, as well as equips you with invaluable self-care skills via meditation, grounding, and centering.

Body Rebalancing: Advanced Neuromuscular Therapy AUGUST 15-16, 2015


This class teaches treatments for clients that help to re-balance the body to proper anatomical position. Through life, we build up chronic imbalances in our bodies due to repetitive tasks, daily routine and emotional stress. This class addresses how to treat these imbalances.

It starts with assessing the client's imbalances through an advanced assessment process. Next, we go over and practice treatment techniques. Finally, we go over treatment plans on how to correct these imbalances with clients both in office treatment and at home work for clients. The main focus techniques are from NMT. Also, we work with stretches and positional work that helps to rebalance the areas most commonly out of balance with clients. Areas of specific work are: the neck, back, wrists (carpal tunnel), the jaw (TMJ), the hips, and all aspects of the legs.

This is a complete technique, taking you from assessing the client's areas of need to the end result, a rebalanced body for the client.

HOT STONE MASSAGE WORKSHOP

October 31, 2015 - November 1, 2015


Hot stone massage is a beautiful addition to one’s massage practice. It can be offered as a massage menu item or integrated with a few stones into one’s Swedish or Deep Tissue massage. A hot stone massage uses heated smooth Basalt river stones to massage the body. The hardness of the stones allows one to address specific problem areas with deeper pressure. And, the smoothness of the stones, which is often mistaken by the client to be the therapists’ hands, allows for gentle, long connecting strokes. The heat from the stones and the warm oil relaxes muscles, increases blood flow, and helps cleanse and detoxify muscles. We go into detail about the use of hot stones in a relaxation massage, as well as applications for chronic pain areas. Later in the course, you will learn the use of

hot stones in other techniques like reflexology and meridian work. We do a cold stone demonstration/practice to show the effects of cold stone application on pain areas and injury sites. This course includes lecture, discussion, Q& A, demonstration, and supervised student practice. By the end of the weekend, you will be able to: give a full hot stone massage; incorporate stone work into your current practice; give hot stone specific work on chronic points; and use cold stones.

INTRODUCTION TO THAI MASSAGE WORKSHOP APRIL 18-19, 2015


Thai Massage is an ancient form of bodywork therapy. It is assumed to have originated in India and was later brought to Thailand. It is estimated that it was developed at least 2500 years ago. Conducted on a mat on the floor with the client fully dressed, it combines elements of shiatsu, yoga, and massage. Some have called it “lazy man’s yoga” because the therapist takes the client’s body through a series of stretches after opening the energy or “sen” lines. During this 12 hour workshop, you will learn about the origins of Thai massage and how to use proper body mechanics while working on the mat. The intro class will focus on the supine position and by the end of the class you will be able to give a 50-minute Thai massage in supine. Heavy emphasis on the sen lines and how to work the sen lines, as well as on Thai foot massage will be given. If you are looking for something new and different this is a great class to take. Whether you pursue the study of Thai massage further or just enjoy the weekend learning a new form of bodywork, you will be able to incorporate what you learn into your table work immediately while enhancing your massage practice and deepening your appreciation for an ancient system of healing.

SELF-CARE FOR MASSAGE THERAPISTS July 11-12, 2015


Learn the categories of self-care that lead to an optimal practice, and identify where your strengths and weaknesses are in these areas. You will learn to identify up to three direct actions you can take to increase your self-care, and get the support of your community to follow through with these actions.

We will discuss how to apply mindfulness to your massage practice and how this will lead to better body mechanics, more presence with yourself and your clients, less fatigue, and less possibility of getting injured. You will have an opportunity to receive a massage and understand the importance of receiving massage as a self-care practice.

You will learn a mindfulness meditation practice and various stretches to support opening the joints of the body, warming

up muscles of the arms/hands/ shoulders, deepening breath and preparing to give massage from a relaxed and present place. Learn some of the most common mistakes that massage therapists make in their practice that lead to burnout, injury, exhaustion and unclear communication with clients. Positional Release is one of the easiest and most useful of soft tissue techniques to learn and practice. Participants will learn gentle manual treatments for relaxing muscle hypertonicity by resetting muscle tone to enhance circulation.

The non-invasive application is effective on trigger points and chronically tense tissue. Participants will explore the history, theory, and benefits of Positional Release, understand the structure of the muscle spindle fibers and be able to integrate this non-invasive practical modality into table and chair sessions by the end of the workshop.

Material will be presented through multiple methods, including handouts, lecture, power point presentation, demonstrations and supervised student practice.

THAI MASSAGE TECHNIQUES WORKSHOP (PRONE & SIDE-LYING)

Thai Massage is an ancient form of bodywork that is assumed to have developed in India and was later brought to Thailand. It is estimated to be about 2500 years old. It has gained in popularity in the US over the last decade and is currently offered at many spas as a menu item. This class is geared toward the therapist that is already familiar with Thai Massage and preferably has taken an introductory class, although all are welcome to attend. The focus of the weekend will be on the side-lying and prone positions with emphasis on working the sen lines as well as Thai stretches. By the end of the weekend, the therapist will be able to give a 50-minute massage in side-lying and prone position. Proper body mechanics while working on the mat will be encouraged throughout the course. If you want to deepen your study and your appreciation for this beautiful dance-like form of bodywork then this is definitely the class.

African massage is based on the term ‘Ubuntu’, which is a belief system based on the interconnectedness of body, mind spirit and community. It incorporates the connectivity of nature, the elements and energy which she calls “Energy in motion.” In African Massage the therapist is constantly moving. This is “energy in motion” and results in a flowing, rhythmical massage which can be deep and therapeutic or relaxing and nurturing. In this technique, the therapist embodies the elements of earth, air, fire and water and creates an intention, which assists in to facilitate positive transformation within the client. African massage assists the therapist to develop their intuitive gifts and assists them to create a unique experience during each massage using the various tools taught in the workshops.

This advanced course focuses on fascial and muscular adhesions, which can cause pain and postural distortions in your clients. In this class, you will learn how to identify the cause of pain and apply Dynamic Deep Tissue techniques to release adhesions which block circulation, cause pain, limit movement, and create inflammation. This course will focus on soft tissue strategies and rehabilitation techniques for injuries and pain patterns frequently encountered in a professional massage practice. Special attention will be placed on specific body mechanics, which are both beneficial for the practitioner and will create dynamic results for your clients. Our informative hands-on Reflexology workshop focuses on the central fundamentals and countless benefits this ancient art form offers.

One of the foundational principles of Reflexology is that energy support to every organ system of the body is accessible through the feet. You will have an opportunity to learn the elemental skills of touching and seeing the feet as a mini-map of the entire body. This course will prepare you to create a session sequence that best serves the needs of your client by attuning your listening and sensing skills to recognize the body’s best interests.

You will also learn which methods lend greatest support to those needs and how proper hand and body mechanics will allow you to effortlessly integrate this valuable modality into your practice.
