As you just saw, I thought I had my whole life planned out. I really needed someone who was more experienced to help me succeed. That person was my academic advisor.
Academic advising is the relationship you’ll have with a Manor College faculty member, who will help advise and guide you as you make choices about what classes to take and what your next steps will be after you graduate from Manor College.
Your advisor will help you understand program requirements, answer questions you might have about your classes or schedule, and help you with other areas like financial aid, transferring out, and how to get ready for graduation and a career.
Unlike Tyler I wasn’t very excited about coming to college. As you saw in the last video, I wasn’t very prepared for keeping up with my work. Not only didn’t I get the extra credit, I ignored my academic advisor when she asked me to come in and talk about my academic progress.
An academic alert is a warning intended to get you back on track.Copies of the alert go to you, your academic advisor, the Dean’s office and to other departments such as the Residence Hall Coordinator if you live in the dorm and to the Athletic Director if you’re an athlete.
Instructors issue alerts for many reasons, including:
Poor performance on a test or quiz. Failure to turn in one or more assignments. Not attending class every day it is
scheduled. Disruptive behavior in the classroom.
If you get an academic alert, go see your instructor and your academic advisor –they’ll help you turn things around.
