Thank you for your generous support of theFoundation. Reflecting on this building year,I feel like momentum is growing and we aretaking the Foundation to the next level. However, the need for continued support fromFoundation volunteers, contributors andsponsors is greater than ever. The state of theeconomy is stressed, and coupled with theimpact of the recently imposed property tax capsresulting in reduced property tax collections, thepressure on the Washington Township School district budget is high. As a result, thework of the Foundation and the continued and increased contributions from ourdonors and sponsors have become even more important in order to sustain theinnovative educational programs and experiences offered to our students.

The Foundation funds numerous curricular programs including Advancement ViaIndividual Determination (AVID), PantherQuest and Advanced Placement (AP) andInternational Baccalaureate (IB) testing. In this past year we awarded more than aquarter of a million dollars in classroom grants and designated gifts. In addition, theFoundation renewed and reconfirmed its commitment to support the Districtfinancially in its pursuit of becoming a kindergarten through grade 12 (K-12) IBpublic school district - the first in the state and one of eight in the country.Basically, that means in addition to requiring a second language for all students, the multi-year process provides necessary professional development for facultyto modify teaching instruction to encompass the inquiry method of teaching.

Washington Township Schools are strong, innovative and successful, providing asolid educational experience to the children in our community. The continuedstrength and quality of our schools and the excellent educational opportunityprovided to our students directly impacts our community. Your continued support ofthe Foundation is not only an investment in our schools but also an investment inour community and our future. I look forward to my continued involvement withthis impressive organization.

Now more than ever we need your support to continue the legacy of giving insupport of our District schools. Thank you for your past support and please continueto give generously to the Foundation in support of our District schools.

Kindest Regards,

What we do...Focus areas of the FoundationPROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENTUp to 35% of the grant budget provides valuable extra training for departments, teams, grade levels or other groups. Your gifts support continuing education forfaculty and make a dramatic impact on the quality of education offered inWashington Township. Currently, the K-12 International Baccalaureate Initiative, endorsed by the Washington Township Education Association, is a comprehensivereform strategy that will improve the educational attainment of every child and isthe focus of the Foundation’s professional development commitment. TheInternational Baccalaureate Organization offers a continuum of education, consisting of three programs: Primary Years Program (PYP), Middle Years Program(MYP), and Diploma Program (DP). (The IB Diploma Program has been a statemodel at North Central High School since 1988.) The K-12 IB Initiative is such asignificant step out of the mainstream of educational planning that the Foundationcommitted $250,000 of support for faculty professional development over a fiveyear period through 2012.

ADVANCEMENTVIA INDIVIDUAL DETERMINATION - AVIDAVID targets so-called average students in middle and high school who neither aremaking any waves, nor reaching their potential. The AVID program has veryexciting success stories culminating with the first cohort group to graduate fromNorth Central with more than $1.2 million in scholarships offered to 49 students.AVID has been a Foundation focus area since 2005.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT AND INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE TESTINGSince 2000, the Foundation has committed to subsidize AP and IB testing fees, enabling many more students to take the exams than would otherwise have beenpossible. The AP program offers externally assessed college level curriculum forNorth Central students through 28 courses. Since 2009, the Foundationcommitment has been $10,000 each year.

PANTHERQUESTPantherQuest is a series of four one-day orientation camps for incomingNorth Central High School students.Led by dynamic students and facultymembers, the freshmen learn abouttheir new building, their schoolculture and traditions, importantissues facing high school students, and how to have fun in their newenvironment. Funding at anannual $10,000, the Foundationconsiders PantherQuest a focusarea of interest and has providedthe opportunity for the studentsand faculty members to attendthe annual Leadership Trainingat Camp Tecumseh.
