Surprised?

People are often surprised to see there is a significant price difference between branded and economy goods.

Swapping your typically favoured branded goods for the nearest economy equivalent is known as ‘downshifting’.

In one year, by downshifting to the Basics range on those

14 items alone, you could save yourself approximately

£1,198!

Downshifting ExamplePremium Brand

e.g. Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Pennoni Pasta

Manufacturer’s Brande.g. Napolina Penne Pasta

Supermarket’s Own-Brande.g. Sainsbury’s Penne Pasta

No-Frills Brande.g. Sainsbury’s Basics Pasta Shapes

£1.57

£1.17

Based on 500g, prices correct September 2011

£0.89

£0.41

You could start by downshifting just one level, e.g. from the manufacturer’s brand to the supermarket’s own – remember the further you downshift, the more money you are likely to save!
